The January-March quarter was a good one for Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division, which includes the company's Xbox 360 business. The division saw revenue for the sector reach $1.94 billion, a year-over-year division increase of 60 percent.

The Kinect and the Xbox 360 helped Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division see robust growth.

The figure was largely fueled by robust sales of the Xbox 360, which moved 2.7 million units for the quarter--1 million more units than the previous January-March record. That brings life-to-date sales of the console to more than 52.7 million units, as it had sold 50-million-units-plus as of the end of 2010. For the past several months, the 360 has been the top-selling home console in the US, according to figures from the NPD Group made public by Microsoft.

Also contributing to the EDD's haul were continuing robust sales of the Kinect, which sold 2.4 million units during the quarter. As of March, the motion-sensing system had sold more than 10 million units, making it the fastest-selling consumer electronics device according to Guinness World Records--a feat Microsoft reiterated today.

The Kinect is as faddish as the Wii; It's the new casual thing to get.

However, it isn't NEARLY as strong as the Wii because NOTHING is being released for it. Literally nothing. Sure, 10 million and probably more will be sold (a big score for Microsoft), but then 9.5 million will be left asking why they even bought the thing in the first place.

The Kinect really just made the old 360 live for another 3-5 years.

If you're saying that about the Kinect, I wonder what you think about the PS Move. Did that put the PS3 on life support as well?

Pshhhh. The Move didn't do ANYTHING to the PS3. Nothing big has happened to it at all.

Sony has to bring up their game to compete with the Kinect, while Nintendo will just sit and procrastinate on their rusty little throne.

The Move is a complete Wiimote rip off, I'll admit that fully, but at least it was a good device. My experience with the Kinect have been nothing but boring and inaccurate. It seems to be following the Wii trend; a lot of families pick one up, thinking it'll be a great family device for fun. They play it for about a day or two and then it just sits there, gathering dust. At least with the Wii they had some worthwhile games past just family friendly fluff to keep the system worth playing, the Kinect is just really boring.

I'm just wondering how it's still selling so well.

The Kinect would be perfectly fine if it didn't get seizures every now and then. Ever tried Sonic Freeriders?

My heart is breaking apart when I think that there's this 1 Sonic game I'll never get to finish. Not because I'm not capable enough, but because it's so god-awful unforgiving. So far the only title I'd get Kinect for and it's BROKEN.
