Apparently Play-Asia was literally SELLING them. Like, not for preorders. For a REALLY high price. Check their facebook status

If you're too lazy, click here.

The temp would love you if you buy one.

So, either they were the ones who broke into the factories and stole 3DS's, or this is one big joke.

Gotta be the former.

Yeeeeeaaaaaah, no. Most of the functions won't even work until launch day, anyway, what with the online store being offline 'til then and a system update being rolled out on the day to turn on other stuff... Plus there's no mention of games themselves, meaning you'll have a 3DS with barebones features and no 3DS games to play on the damn thing. Certainly isn't worth the asking price, especially after you've added in tax and shipping (the latter of which Play-Asia is notorious for overcharging).

I hope a cracking team picks one up. Having flashcarts before the console even launched would be sadly hilarious. (Assuming the cart works after the Day 1 patch)

I know, I just turned my reservation into a preorder and it came up to $479 minus shipping, however there's a reason, there are an extremely limited number of them and the price varies from reservation to reservation (some people are paying more than that as much as $590 US).

this doesn't sound like they have the consoles in hand, it sounds like they are just sure that they've secured a batch of 3DS from the release day shipments. Play-Asia and other importers generally have to buy their import systems through middleman suppliers and not directly from the manufacturers themselves.

have you guys never lived through a new console launch? these systems are gonna be impossible to find even if you live in actual japan, of course they're gonna charge an arm and a leg to people trying to import. Plus I'd bet 75% of the price isn't even Play-Asia's fault, it's inflation from the supplier they managed to get stock from. It's not like Play-Asia walks into the local japanese game shop, buys a bunch of 3DS at face value, and then sells them to you at $10 extra.

No one on the temp is rich enough to get one?

Ah well, there's no one to blame

I mean it ISSSSS coming out in 2 months for less than half of THAT price.
Just thought it would aid our community if someone got hold of it. ;P

Even if money isn't an issue, I don't think anyone wants to spend the better part of $1000 on a Japanese handheld that won't play NA/EU/AUS games.

I find this very hard to believe.
They wouldn't sell a system 2 months before it is released.
If they did Nintendo would sew their asses big time.
And they would clearly know that nintendo would sew them.

1 month*

We're talking about an asian website. Those are japanese 3DS

@FireGrey: But this is Play-Asia we're talking about...

I find it REALLY unlikely that they would lie. They're so reliable.
On the other hand, you kind of have a point.
I don't know what to believe, but let me just point this out:
If any of you actually order one of these, I'll think of you as a god.
