Hacking Would you recommend G6 Real???

Okay, this is the gist of it.

If you're not stupid or clumsy, your G6 should only ever corrupt at most ONCE.

If you cleanly jam the cart into the connector, and cleanly remove the connector after using windows safe hardware removal, your cart should never corrupt. Ever.

So unless you put a bad program, a virus gets onto it, or any other user stupidity issues, the G6 is an extremely stable cart.

etc. etc.

Thanks for adding one to the end of a hundreds of patronising "RTFM" responses. Some of us do have carts that randomly corrupt while being written to. It's a defective cart. How many R4/M3 threads have you seen where the microSD card turned out to be the problem even though it was a known working brand/chip? Sometimes memory has errors that don't turn up on simple factory QA tests. Return it for replacement or live with it. I can live with it, it's a fantastic card for games, but the homebrew problems mean it's living in a drawer for now (but i haven't got round to testing 2.3 yet).

If homebrew doesn't matter, or you can wait for it to (maybe) be fixed, it's worth buying.
I actually prefer Mediaplay-Extend to MoonShell for it's ebook reader (though if ReadMore ever gets an update that will cease to matter).

I have a 16Gb version and I definitely love it and recommend it.
Most of the issues people had with it at the beginning of this tread are already fixed with update 2.3 , and from now on I guess it can only get better when new updates are going to be available.
Go for it, you won't regret it, I'm actually thinking of getting a second one for my brother as well, even though I have a few more flashcarts already I really like the G6 real.

Interesting thread... Wish I had found it before ordering my G6Real this week as I might've held out a bit longer in the search for the perfect Slot-1 card.

I have used the R4 before and think it's a great option with one caveat: I am not confident that the spring-loaded microSD slot would hold out against extended use. While borrowing the R4, I noticed a couple of times that moving your finger across the top of the cart could move the microSD card slightly, causing the DS to freeze. Sometimes the system would also freeze for no apparent reason after extended use, although I'm assuming it was a memory-speed related issue working with the 1GB Kingston card? Also, taking the microSD card out fairly often made me worry that the spring would eventually cause problems (or that the microSD card would get misplaced).

These R4 concerns might be off base, and they might not matter to others... but they are part of the reason I chose to order a G6Real instead. 2GB of memory is more than I need for storage, and the improved speed/convenience of onboard memory sounds like a definite benefit to me. Firmware support so far seems good, although it will take a few more releases to catch up with the R4. The G6Real user interface seems better than the R4, and there are already nice skins available for use. The built in eBook reader has recieved good word of mouth, and is a big draw for me. (However, I'd be shocked if there a free homebrew eBook reader with the same features isn't available soon.)

I only have two concerns with the G6Real:
(1) If complaints here about faulty memory and/or file corruption problems with the card are accurate, that could be a problem. While firmware issues can and will be fixed over time, hardware problems would be much more serious.
(2) I'm not sure about the "capacitator save" feature where users apparently need to restart the DS after they finish playing to move save states from a capacitator onto the actual card. Not a big deal if you play actual games (not ROMs) and use the card for multimedia, but for some people this might be a problem.

G6DS Real is a good cart but the CycloDS is better. The only reason to get a G6 Real is for the speed, the GUI is nothing compared to the Cyclo, and its download play compatiblity should be fixed by now but isn't. Get a CycloDS, much better choice.

Do you own a CycloDS? Can you comment on the physical quality of the card, especially the MicroSD slot? I was scared away from the CycloDS because of the slightly lower review score and the comment: Cart build quality not top notch*. But Micro SDHC support would be a good deal once bigger cards are available and affordable.

Edit: Download play doesn't matter for what I'll be doing. It could be a big factor for others to consider, though.

My 1st flashcart was a cyclods evolution, which i just got about 7-8 weeks ago for my daughter and we love it. This week i just got a R4 & a G6 Real 16Gb from RHS, and right now the G6 Real 16Gb is going to be my flashcart that i use exclusively. I really like the GUI and the feel of it overall, also the build quality is better than the evolution in my opinion. The only thing i worry about is the card reader going bad or my 3 1/2 year old son getting a hold of it and breaking it.

The GUI in the CycloDS is weak, in my opinion. That's the only downfall of the cart. The Enhanced Mode is ok, but I haven't being taken to a separate screen everytime I want to soft reset. It definitely is a good cart, there's no doubt about that, but the G6 Real's GUI blows the Evo's away. Although, I do agree that the M3/G6 Team should have had download play fixed by now. Especially since they were the first team to promise it to us, but three other carts have gotten it first.

Honestly, I fail to see how the G6R menu is good at all. CycloDS Evo has some kind of customization to the way it shows files at least. I'd love for the G6R to be able to show headers or homebrew icons

Also, there isn't a way to delete files in the MyCard function is there?

As far as I know, there probably isn't a way to delete files. The EEPROM is written to by the DS then moved to the main memory when the games list is loaded. (hence the reset saving) I think to clear memory, you might have to have the file moved to the EEPROM or something of the like, for the DS to write it.

Frankly, I think the G6 is one of the best carts out there. Give it some time. In my opinion, it'll develop into a great cart.

Just give it a bit of time.
