Hi,

I had a little tinker creating HD Texture Packs for PS2 games, Evil Dead Regeneration being my first pack which is like 99% complete, I was going to start on Devil May Cry, but I wanted to make some alterations how I continue creating HD Texture Packs because as stated I do not see the point in taking the games default base texture and simply multiplying its dimensions and applying simple filters.

I had set from the go to fully re-create these games with completely new textures, which I have been working on making this possible.

But this now means it involves more time to do so, but was wondering if users would be willing to donate towards the extensive work going into my new HD Texture Packs going forward (as I still have Evil Dead Regeneration textures, I may return to it and redo thus game again).

If so, I am a n00b in terms of settling up donations, not sure what most people go for these days and what donation providers users are happy to use, so I am basically asking for info on this.

Donations will also go towards a domain website which I will mainly update with game(s) progress along with screenshots/videos and my HD Texture Packs (like Evil Dead Regeneration) will be hosted on my personal server for dedicated downloads (no GDrive, Mega ect where links may die, my links will be hosted 24/7).

As I am in testing phase, I will create some example HD Textures along with the default texture so you can clearly see how much more attention to detail I will be putting in my HD Texture Packs going forward.

I may also create a user poll to upvote for the next game, which users could suggest the next game to be remastered.

Thanks

most people use Kofi as their donation source.

A benefit to using a third party site to host downloads instead of self-hosting is protection against ddos attacks.
I'd recommend adding cloudflare to your site if you want to prevent that from being a potential issue.

Cloudflare is a fantastic idea as a preventative measure to limit instances of becoming a target for people. Hope the setup goes smooth for you Spider_Man :bortz:.

In my honest opinion, you're donating towards assets that people do not own the copyright to, and they most certainly should not be putting them behind a paywall because that makes you a grifter and gives off a bad look. What you should be donating to, are the people behind the games you truly enjoy. Developers, designers and musicians deserve recognition and support from the community, but I do believe that those who put hard effort into restoring artworks do also deserve recognition as well.

assets who doesn't own?

these are not the assets created by the dev, I have fully recreated them. If people would like to donate, nothing is hidden behind a paywalll, thats now two assumptions you've falsely made, how does it make me look like a grifter asking if people would be happy to donate for the very long and hard work going into this.

I shouldn't need to donate anything to anyone, all games I have on my drive are games that I have purchased and dumped myself.

Figure you should avoid assuming stuff, if you've nothing valid to add then don't. ;) ;)

Also I'm doing this because I have nothing to do, crippled from having cancer, need a project to entertain my mind because its boring when you cant work.

Making money of other peoples designs, all-though they look better, could be interpreted as grifting...

No. These projects should be free. At most, have a kofi or Patreon.
I guess nobody knows the meaning of donations.

At no point had I said they'd be charged for, clarified that even though it was made clear to begin with.

And yes patreon i have heard if which is like a donation service.

The way I am looking at it is, people seem to like these remasters from NightDive, Aspire and the texture packs I will release will be like this.

Only the game itself will be of someone else's work, its textures will be completely my own work

Here's a sample video of my current remaster project, Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence, this will be far superior to my first retexture project Evil Dead Regeneration.

This project currently WIP, in this video you'll notice some changes but its main focus is to show the character improvements, Snake, Sokolov, Ocelot, The Boss, The Pain, The Fury, The End, Volgin and Eva.

I have uploaded it and shared on my personal server because I have yet to build a website and create socials/video channels and its about 30 minutes long (when you first meet Sokolov).

It has been created and captured using my OneXplayer 2 Pro so frames may drop slightly due to recording and emulating at the same time.

Hello, friends in distant places, I am sorry that english is not my mother language, please forgive me if I say something wrong. I am chinese,I understand your idea, because I have done it, but there are too many people in this world who stand on the moral high ground to judge others, they just don't want to spend money, but will find various reasons to condemn your behavior, I'm not sure other countries ,but in China, many people think that the text translation and HD texture of the game should be free. If you charge them money, they'll say you are illegal, but they don't say the simulator is infringement, because free, how shameless

Sorry to chime in again so late, but do people know how time intensive it is to do this? I considered a similar thing. I have a kofi. I would never lock textures behind a paywall, because I personally dont like pay walls.. but legally, if you are remaking assets you can technically charge for them directly. Not that you even suggested this... When it comes to AI upscales, of course this is copyright infringement if you are charging for it, but even then, optionally donating to the makers of these mods that spend hundreds of hours making games better for everyone is bad how?

again, nothing will be locked, clearly stated in the first post plus the term donation means it is optional to support a cause.

I'm also NOT using AI tools, I am taking the default texture, multiplying its dimensions then using new layers I create new textures using default as guide so its within the default.

I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear. Read again. I am supporting you. I am doing the exact same. You should absolutely set up ways for people to thank you monetarily for the hours of time you have put in to this. I am talking about optional donations here. When it comes to paywalls for original textures, which you didnt even suggest, I have no problem with it any way. It is legal to do so, I just personally wouldn't do it that way as I think it would lower the reach of your work and less people can enjoy it. You could certainly take commissions. Set up a commission page and do it that way dude. Your stuff is great - not sure what that guy is talking about.

i personally just do hd packs for the love of the games, and there is new games out every day, people won't pay for just upscales, unless you go all out like sad origami with shadows of the colossus, the reason i separate my dumps by eco, characters, clothes, structure, wood. misc, is so i can apply different models to give it a different look, so if you're really trying to do it for money , think customization, apply new ideas , change colors, change faces, and do videos and make commentary, put yourself out there and make content, good luck

I am aiming to give gamers an actual remaster.

I have captured some footage, it is still in the WIP stage.
