I've installed most of my cartridge games using Godmode9 and FBI so that I can do local play on various games. I was curious however if using the 3DS data transfer between a Luma 3DS and default fw 3DS would work to transfer backups of games. Does anybody know if this has risk of damaging/bricking/banning the default 3DS and if this would work as it should, and also if this would work with DSiWare games?

It would not work at all. Only legitimately bought games that have properly signed tickets from ninty would transfer over. Aswell the games would need to have cfw on the second console to read nonsigned tickets for how games installed works.

Interesting, so regular game cartridges don't have these tickets? I'm assuming it would be because tickets would be required for verified purchases and preventing piracy through digital. Thanks anyways!

Yes, they have a cart-unique private header instead. However, that's not the specific reason why they don't transfer, which is because you can't forge a fake ticket. CFW makes it so all tickets are treated as valid, so any invalid ticket works just fine.
