PS1/2 Worth updating my PS2 HDD loader setup?

It must've been over 5 years ago when I decided to buy the HDD adapter for my phat PS2 and a 500gb IDE HDD but I used Free MCboot to get HDLoader running and 99% of the games I wanted to play actually ran without any problems. Of course that was 5 years ago and so far, I see OPL as the latest program to use for loading PS2 ISOs from HDD but at the time, the compatibility was still in its infancy. Any idea if OPL is almost 100% or should I stick with HDloader?

I use Open PlayStation 2 Loader 10th Anniversary Edition (OPL 1570-DB-TA-87f4a19)
The only Issue still I encountered is Resident Evil 4 can still not save to VMC.

Game upload works great with it since HDL Serve is included in OPL Loader (from PC do it with HDL Dump Helper GUI v2.3).
Cover/Cfg File(VMC upload only via FTP (I use FileZilla)

I'm guessing VMC is virtual memory card which isn't high on my want list since I have several PS2 cards. Apart from that, is it a safe assumption that OPL has become a must have tool at this point?

Yes,Virtual Memory Card I think a very useful feature.No mess around with Memory Cards (except for 2-3 games)
You can copy Savegames easier over to PC or the other Way.

They have also integrated a implemented Cheat option now.
You can also play your Games over Ethernet from an PC,still fast enough.

Safe ? What is safe today when a hard drive stops working without warning.
I do not detected issues with OPLoader itself.
It is a very god piece of Loader Homebrew Application.
Must have ? If you like such features what for example the Wii with USBLoader GX has,then yes.
Seriously,if you happy with HDLoader than why change.I see no need to "upgrade" if you do not need this features mentioned.

now any pc is able to run pcs2 emulator, which output superior graphics, antialiasing faster loading, it's not worth upgrade.
