i downloaded a smb1 rom (yeah i pirated it), but when i went to play it, the logo wasn't on the screen, but everything else was ok

i clicked player 1, and there was this strange ocean level, and in the corner it said "world 0-1"

heres a video for proof

somebody that i talked to about it said this

ive never heard of the "water level"

lol

edit: when the number 12 or smthn appears in the video thats me pressing A and when the movie thing appears its me pressing B because i hadn't set up the controls properly in the emulator

This is due to an incorrectly-dumped rom, combined with incorrect emulator behavior. Hold the A button while you press Start and it will start at World 1-1 like normal. This is completely separate from the "minus world" glitch.

It's not "incorrectly dumped", but it's not the original SMB1 either (the file is lacking the "[!]" in the name, the checksum is different, possibly the title screen had the logo removed or Mario & Gigi's names changed)

You know those 9999 in 1 multicarts, where a lot of games are duplicates but sometimes with a number-of-lives or a starting-level hack?

Your copy of SMB1 was ripped from one of those, and the game was hacked to "not start from world 1" (with the expectation that the number would be filled in by the, now obviously missing, multicart's menu) - the pirates just left in the default world for continuing to be 1 :)
