When I go to download a backup rom of my ds game it ask to save or open with winrar. I'm wondering which works best. Sorry to the pros on here very new to this not the best with comps lol. Also after download it's very hard to locate the rom folder, I usally have to do a search for the rom itself, any suggestions would be great and thanks in advance. A lot of help on this site

In your browser settings you should be able to change a setting so that you can pick where your download goes every time you download something.

When I download something I just save it, then use Winrar to unzip it, then when I have the complete file I delete the .rar. Sometimes if I choose the straight up open with Winrar option, when it goes to open it there is an error...So I usually save the rar, get my file then delete the rar just to be safe.

Change where it saves to. If you have the option to pick how to save it and to choose to open it directly after, you should be able to change the save location in the same window. It would default into the download folder for your account if not changed.

That option just lets you choose to basically open it in Winrar to extract it immediately after the download it, or save it and extract it with Winrar later anyways. The type of file will generally be .zip or .7z. Both can be extracted with Winrar. The file you want will be inside the folder that results from the file extraction.

tl;dr - Open it with Winrar right away, or save it and open it/extract it with Winrar later.

it should normally save under local disk/Users/*your username* /Downloads

when you download a .rar you might as well just open it with winrar and then extract the .nds file out of it, if you just save it you will have to extract it later (your flashcart can only play the .nds when it is extracted out of the .rar)

Personally, I choose Open if I'm gonna transfer it right then, and Save if I'm not. Actually, I always Save so that I can trim the ROM.

But in Windows 7, DON'T "run" an EXE right from the net. It's broken, and it never loads/takes hours for a tiny program to load.

I save if there is rar (or zip) inside rar (or zip) or there is splited arcive inside archive or if it's something bigger (>127 MB). And I like to have 'Save To' window everytime I download something.

EXEs works fine when running them right from net for me (in Windows 7). Loads fast and never had broken one (using Opera, which I think saves opened/runned files in temp folder).

I like to save the file and untick the close when finished on the left side of download so i can go to the file without looking for it.
At least that way if you download a Virus you can scan the archive before opening it.
