Hacking Will using the rom trimmer have adverse effects?

I want to put music on my MicroSD card and I was wondering if I should use the rom trimmer that came with my m3 simply. I heard that this particular rom trimmer "overtrims" or something and I don't have much experience with any rom trimming or flashcarts for that matter.
