Misc WiiMMFi MKDS connected but not finding players

Hello all,
I have a question on playing Mario Kart DS on Wiimmfi. I have connected to 'nintendo wfc' fine on the cartridge on a 3ds. However I never find any players despite there being some logged in on wiimmfi.de.
Is this due to them potentially connected via friend codes and not just blindly looking or is there something I'm missing. I was going to test with another copy but MKDS is still going for £15 even after all this time!

Hi, you may check connected players at:

Status 2 means they are ingame, Status 1 means they are in main menu and Status 3 means they are looking for opponents

Yes, it might also be they are playing friend matches or regional matches, anyways try looking for people with ol_stat oGvS (Online Global Versus Searching) (Might also mean they are looking for friends)
