Hacking wiikey

It says a lot of things, apparently there has been some update due for months but they keep delaying it.

it's recommended to turn off wifi 24 before you install the modchip, if you don't your wifi 24 won't work properly and you won't be able to use the vote or weather channel at all.

also it's normal for your wiimotes to suddenly unsync and not respond to your movements, you will have to turn off the wii for a while when this happens, i've yet to see it happen again it was only once.

Thanks for the reply. I believe that these problems exist, however I doubt that the cause is a correctly installed Wiikey (or any other modchip): AFAIK the Wiikey is a Drive Modchip which should only influence the Disc Reading behavior. Messing up the way cookies are stored or how the Wiimote synchronizes sounds somehow far away from the chip's capabilities.

However an incorrectly installed chip might cause these problems, for example by shortening some circuits on the board...

nope you are wrong, it's because when the modder installs the modchip he removes the battery that powers the date, time and wifi 24 on the wii, when this is removed and then put back into the Wii it messes everything up, that's why the wifi 24 needs to be turned off so you don't experience any of these problems.

I have modded 20 or so Wii's with wiikeys (usa and pal) and i have never had ANY connect24 problems occur and they were all turned on [connect24] before I modded.

The only thing that messed up was the vote data, but you just have to erase the data and it works again.

well that topic on PSX scene forums in the wiikey section proves otherwise, it IS a issue, it's even mentioned in the Wiikey review on gba temp to turn it off! so i ain't bluffing.

and i quote

QUOTEI recommend that before installing the Wiikey you go into your Wii’s system settings and disable Wiiconnect24. Some users have reported Wiiconnect troubles after installation of a modchips. I disabled Wiiconnect24 and then re-enabled it after installation and I haven’t had any troubles with the Weather or News Channels. Also be aware that when you dismantle your Wii you will lose time and date settings (no game saves will be lost), be sure to re-enter the time and date immediately after installation.
