It's used for GameCube homebrew mostly. It allows you to use an SD card as a GC Memory card, so you can put emulators, apps, music or whatever on it to use on a chipped GC or Wii. You can also back Wii or GC games up to the SD card using homebrew on the Wii. It's basically useful if you've got a chipped Wii but not too useful otherwise afaik.

So it's impossible to use it on an unmodded GameCube/Wii to back up your saves to a SD-card? My memory card is pretty much full, and I can't find a new one for a reasonable price. I have some SD-cards, which are 128 MB and such. I don't use them, as they're to small, but for GameCube games it's almost unlimited space

You can't use an SD card adaptor for gamecube save games.
The official SD memory card adaptor was used for 1 (Animal Crossing+, maybe a few more) japanese games to save pictures but not the save game itself.

I'm really not familiar with them enough to tell you, but from what I've read, it doesn't seem to be possible to simply use the SD adapter as a memory card. I know you can transfer saves from a real memory card onto one of them for backup, but whether or not this is possible without a modded cube/wii, I don't know. You're probably best off getting one of those Cube memory cards with a USB port on them at this stage I'd say.

Oh, I didn't know about those! Thanks for the tip! I'll search for them.

Same as the Gecko? ow do I get Gamecube games to recognize a save besides my own? I can backup and restore my own saves, but not others. (using MCBACKUP)
