Hacking Wiikey config discs not booting

It's just about time for me to turn the region override on, and I can't seem to do it. I've got a 3.1U wii with a 1.9g wiikey working great. I've tried running the config 1.2 (reads as gamecube but reboots on launch), config 1.3 (won't recognize disc), a 'fixed' config 1.3 (boots and asks me to insert the wiikey base disc). I tried swapping in any of the other config discs and hitting reset but nothing happens.

What should I do to get the config disc booted and working?

Try to boot it with gcos, if nothing else works.
Ps. Actually i had same kind of problem but can't remember how I fixed it.

GCOS 1.4 looks like it boots just fine, and gives me the option to boot DVD. I don't have a gamecube controller so I'll pick one up tomorrow and try swapping discs, unless someone has a better solution. Thanks
