Hacking Wii USB ret = -6

Sorry if this is redundant but i havent seen a solution to this in any posts ive seen.

Using a 3.2u wii, with a 4GB SD card.

I installed the cIOS rev 10, and the USB2.dol , then ran the usb launcher, formatted the 160g hdd on my pc into the wbfs, was successful. Transferred 2 games, tried to boot it in the usb loader, said it couldnt locate a drive with the WBFS file system, asked to create one, then gave me ret = -6.

Any ideas on how to fix it? or at least point me in a direction on how to fix it?

try reinstalling rev 10, make sure you download it from wanikoko's blog. This is the link for the custom cios rev 10 off of wanikoko's blog http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zdztqgmtnyn


After you finish downloading it follow these steps:

1- rename (rev10.dol to boot.dol) and put it in a folder (IOS36_rev10 Installer) and put it in (APPs) folder .
2- run HBC and look for (IOS36_rev10 Installer) and run it .
3- when prompt choose internet install and it should do it wink.gif .

That is how i install the cios rev 10 on my wii. I was getting the (ret=-6 error) also then i updated my rev file and it has worked ever since.

I would also HIGHLY recommend that you use the v7.4 USB loader, which is based off v1.5, get the link here http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=147085

Also make sure you rename the usb loader file to boot.dol, then run it from the homebrew channel

If you follow those steps, you should be up and running.

ok i did that, now i am getting a ret = -1 error

i connected my usb hard drive, and loaded the 7.4 ultimate version, waited a minute then gave me the ret = -1 error.

gonna try reformatting the drive on my pc

Try the swap trick:

1. Start the USB Loader v7.4 with the hard drive connected to the Wii.
2. When you see the "Waiting for device" message, unplug the hard drive and plug in a spare USB stick that is formatted as FAT or FAT32
3. You should now get a message that says "No WBFS Partitions Found - Press A to select a partition to format". Do not press A yet.
4. Unplug the USB stick and plug in your hard drive. After the hard drive is connected, press A.
5. It should now list the partitions on your hard drive. Press B to return to the main menu without formatting.
6. You should now be at the main menu with the hard drive working. If this works, you will need to repeat this step every time until a new version of the loader comes out that fixes this issue.

If this doesn't work then I dunno what to suggest other than a reformat of the hard drive. Hope this helps!

I was getting ret = -6 too, so i make a trick that worked.

1) Turn on your Wii but dont stick your UBS Drive
2) Open the USBLoader, and when the screen waiting you press the A button appear, go and stick your USB Drive.
3) Press A.

This is the only way the USBLoader worked for me, tested with 2 Pen Drivers (1GB and 4GB), tested also with a HD USB 200GB, but the HD still getting -6 error.

Im wating a fix for this couse i dont want to remove and put the usb again on wii everytime i want to load a game.

ok i followed the swap guide, and it got back to the main drive, but it found no games.

What WBFS GUI do you use? Also I would try reformatting your drive with it connected to the PC, assign it a drive letter, load 1 iso onto the HDD, then plug it into your wii to see if it working.

Recap:
1. What WBFS gui are you using?
2. Try reformatting within the gui with the drive connected to the PC
3. assign the partition a drive letter
4. add 1 iso with your gui for testing purpose's
5. plug hdd into your wii and see if it works

If all is good, then you can load the rest of your ISO's

I've been using the WBFS gui made by maschell and i've had great luck with it.

Another thing when the USBLoader found my USB Drive i chose to format, then i put on PC and used WBFS Manager only to put the games but not use the WBFS Manager Format tool.

I put WALL-E and Mario Party 8 to test. and both worked.

Anyone know a fix to the swap trick? i dont want to swap everytime lol.

i have a usb harddrive 320gb seagate with its own power supply: i kept getting ret = -6 all then time with my hdd plugged in? then i found i had to turn power of to hdd , turn on the wii then turn power on to hdd then load usbloader , NOW WORKS every time that way
