Ah, well, then that means for those who can't block IP address are shit out of luck. That's just fan-freaking-tastic, really screwed the pooch on that one.

like someone else suggested get a job and then buy a new router if your not open to other suggestions!! :) (suggestion being the main word) google it

You don't need a fancy router. You need a custom DNS server.

I set up a small CentOS VM in VirtualBox.
I set up dnsmasq DNS server on that server, and set up DNS entries that map the Nintendo update servers to my computers LAN IP.
I set my WiiU to use this server as a DNS server.

BAM, problem solved, no expensive router required.

There will be very usefull to write a tuto for blocking nus ips, I need it for updating some ubisoft games for exemple. And will need to do it soon for installing exploit. It is not so hard to setup a router but i don't want to do it without tuto because i m really afraid by updates !

@ people asking about router blocking, delete all wifi connections from your system and just add a new one when you actually want to use the exploit. Then disable it afterward.

But wouldn't you have to do that every time? That's not going to stop the update nags though. And accidents do happen, some poor sod will probably accidentally click "yes". What we need is a way to prevent the NUS servers from downloading the update. Unfortunately, I can't block IP addresses. Man, wish there was a way to add a connection while blacklisting the NUS IP addresses, guess I can toss that hope out the window.

Taking connections off stops most online-related nags, and I never got additional update nags after doing it. Either way, it's still advisable.

Hosting some sort of local server with no internet access would solve your problem too, but that's outside the scope of this thread I'd think.

Damn...I have a bad feeling that for those who can't blacklist, things will get complicated and or inadvertent updating will occur. What I'm talking about it is when using the exploit and connection, when you enable the connection in the settings, would the Wii U not prompt the update? I personally don't trust myself to be perfect at answering "later" on the update nag, that's what worries me the most. Couldn't a laptop be used as a server?

It sucks if you can't blacklist - but it it really matters, people can figure something out for their own specific situation.

Does the Wii U even locally store updates though? I've literally started the update process to go beyond 4.1.0 and canceled, and I still never got update nags with my internet connection off.

EDIT: oh, and another thought - blocking NUS didn't do anything to block updates until when i was actually in the update process. it'll block the update at literally the last second, in my experience.

Well, that settles it, I blame Google Fiber for making a stupid network box with no blacklisting altogether. I don't know if the Wii U actually stores them or not, but man, just my luck to have a router I can't blacklist or do anything to prevent updates. Again, I don't trust myself with selecting "no" as accidents happen. If only the kernel exploit didn't rely on a web exploit....

Ah, but I already have Google's network box, would I be able to hook up the router to that, make a network with it, then just blacklist? Of course, no way in hell I can do that now, no money.

It'd work, yeah. You could even get a used WRT54G for like $10 on ebay or something. It doesn't really need to be a fast router.

As long as I can use my Ethernet cable (the WiFi in my apartment complex is horrendous), then I'm sold. Well, guess all's not lost :P I have a LAN adapter for the Wii U, works great.

If you are still in/near utah, there are a ton of people/places that will help those that are cash challenged and/or don't want to add perfectly good stuff to landfills. Try searching:

you can even sometimes request items,Good Luck

Can't say I've heard of that, and I've been here since 1989, heh, and thanks for the links, and I'm seeking a job. Once I have money, I'll get a router and then blacklist the IP addresses so I don't accidentally update.
