Hey @soneek, I have a quick question. So, Smash 4 is built off the same engine as Super Smash Bros. Brawl (under the Havoc engine.) How hard would it be to port things from Brawl into Smash 4 such as stages or even Characters for that matter? Just generally curious.

Well, the file system is completely different, and also the way the files are packed, or not packed. I'll leave that to someone else to figure out. I'm just doing proof of concept for anything not sound related.

I was just looking at that pastebin you posted. How many Gigs did all those songs you added take up? And what is the overall limit to the amount of songs you can add to mymusic or any given stage?

So far 3.3 GB. I don't know what the song limit is, but I made room for 2000 so far. For My Music purposes, there can be 40 songs per stage. There can multiple multiple songs choices for menus as well, including the Results Display Screen. I'll do a demo stream this week once I have stuff finished.

How difficult is adding songs to the game and mymusic? Do you just add entries to some file, or do you have to manually edit the games executable?
On a similar note, how hard was it to make every stage 8-player smash compatible?
I'm not asking you to detail how you did it in full, since you probably aren't ready to release your work. I'm just curious how much work you had to put into this because I want to try too when the IOSU kernal gets released.

Also, does mymusic crash if you try to enter it without hacks enabled after adding all those songs? And what happens if you try to load a replay that was saved after using an added song?

So... wait? The game has an in-game menu to where you can change the Results Display Screen music? I'm generally confused. Was this an unused feature found within Smash Wii U?

8 player Smash enabling was easy, and it makes those stages appear in Classic mode 8 player matches as well.

No, it just goes back to the default. Good question, I haven't tried saving a replay with an added song and playing it back without hacks loaded yet.

No. Every stage and menu has a hardcoded My Music default values table. All menus only have 1 song, but it's possible to have more than one song in each one. There's a separate file for what actually gets displayed in "My Music."

So... does that mean you can change songs on the fly, or does it mean you can have a unique Results Screen theme for each character/stage?

On the subject of music hacking Smash, I'm assuming:
A) If music expansion is a thing we get to pick our own file names
B) It's completely unrealistic to have Smash support other sound formats (like BFSTM or even BRSTM, or even WAV if we really wanted to)
C) Sample rates do not matter at all

The file name part probably, but file format and sample rate would likely have to remain in formats the game itself can actually read.
