Hacking Wii Twilight [NO SD DECT]

I am trying to install the homebrew network for a friend from his 2006 brought wii but it appears that it is not detecting it for copying saves saving but when I enter the pictures application it does find the SANDISK 1 GB sd card. I think this means a update is required, but won't that boost me up to 3.4 straight away?

You can update via a game too, just don't pick a game released after october 2008. But maybe you only need to reformat the sd card, you should test this first.
