Hacking Wii Softmod noob

Hello fellow wii owners.

I have not looked into wii hacking since The twilight hack, and for months, maybe a year, I completely gave up on hacking the wii because no way I was going to buy that stupid zelda game.

Today I finally came across the game and decided to hack my wii.

Then I find out, thats not necessary anymore?


I have a bagillion questions.

What is bannerbomb? How is it used? How do I softmod my wii?

I have a wii version 4.0U, is it hackable? Ive had it for what? 2 years?

Any easy tutorials on what to do to softmod a wii 4.0U?




All help is appreciated, and I know I probably sound stupid with whatever I'm asking.

I'm usually on the other side of the fence.

NTSC-J - snip
NTSC - snip
PAL - snip

Modify 4.2 - snip

The one for your region: NTSC-J is Japan, NTSC is North America, and PAL is Europe.

Also, get rid of the links; they're not allowed on GBATemp

New problem

Modify 4.2
The actual hacking guide. Only will work for those on a 4.2 firmware.

Setting up the SD Card
1st download the precompiled link modify.zip by emailing [email protected]
Extract the "modify.zip" & put the files onto a SD card & insert the SD card into the Wii.

Installing The Homebrew Channel & Bootmii
Run bannerbomb by going to the SD Card menu & choosing yes to load boot.dol/elf
This runs the Hackmii Installer from which you should install the Homebrew Channel, DVDX [optional], & Bootmii as IOS & boot2 if possibl

When I go into SD card menu it freezes.....

Tried it twice, still froze... lame

I'm Using NTSC, and I did all the above steps.

make sure there is nothing else but bannerbomb in the private dir

if that version doesnt work go here http://bannerbomb.qoid.us/index.new.php and grab some of the diff versions and see how they go

But it worked the first time when I used update.zip

On modify.zip it freezes.

trust me grab some of the other versions, the update one was run differently as u were on ver 4.0 of the sys menu the modify one is for 4.2 so go to the website and grab different versions untill u find one that works

The thing is I have no Idea how these things work, and what part of the modify.zip was the bannerbomb.

If I go to that site, what do I download, which one was the one in the modify.zip so I know the new one I get is different.


And which files will I have to remove from the modify.zip to replace with these new files.


And if I do replace these files, can I continue to follow the tutorial?

delete everying out of the private folder on your sd card
and just put the banner bomb stuff in it

Well, someone completely new at wii softmodding isnt expected to know all of a sudden everything.

I hardly know any of the stuff mentioned here, and am trying as hard to grasp the basics of this.

Alright, tried some of the older versions.

A and B make me freeze before the dialog box, and some of the older ones dont freeze me but just a question mark box shows up.

I have 4.2U now.
