Hardware Wii remote won't stay synced

As the title says, my Wii remote cannot stay synced at all. It loses connection every time I go into any channel, turn it off, or if I change batteries. The remote won't turn on when I press any button; the only thing that works is if I press the sync button to resync it to the Wii. All of the buttons on the remote works perfectly once it is on and connected. What should I do?

Did you try holding the console sync button for >15 seconds to reset the sync settings? (I think you need to do it at least at the health and safety screen)
