I have a new 1tb Hitatchi Touro USB3 bus powered HDD.

I have it plugged into the bottom USB port on the Wii. The drive just doesn't appear to spin up, and the USB loaders can't see the HDD.

Its formatted as FAT32.

Any help appreciated :)

If USB3 stands for USB 3.0, I'm sorry but you are out of luck, the wii's USB ports aren't 3.0 and do not give enough power to make that HDD work.

not true...or at least with the 3 portable usb3.0 drives i've used. all three were western digital if that matters.

i've yet to see a USB3.0 drive that isn't labelled as USB2.0/3.0...portable or not. the wii's port(s) meets the USB2.0 standard...if a USB2.0 on a PC can power the drive, there's no reason the wii's port shouldn't.

...if power is really the issue, you can buy a USB powerboost y-adapter (which draws extra power from an additional USB port) and use that.

I use a WDBY8L0020BBK with my Wii, it's USB 3.0 and it works like a charm (even GC games) with the provided short USB 3.0 cable.

To the OP: try a shorter cable.
