And all remember the Wii that has its life taken for this! May it rest in peace!

This is really a good step in the homebrew scene! =)

EDIT: Not to scare people so taken from Hackmii.com

Does this mark the end of the Wii?

No, not in the least. Yes, its an exploit. But only people that search and learn what to do will crack it. Other people will just use the Wii as normal. There have been two systems which this type of thing has REALLY happened to. The Dreamcast and the PSP. The PSP is still being sold (after 2 years of exploits... and its still broken), and sales aren't horrible. (i won't say "sales are great!" because... we all know THATS not true

). The Dreamcast, on the other hand, died out REALLY fast... but that wasn't a console hack. That was a fuckup, on Sega's part, that allowed code being added onto a game, that made them self-boot. People could just d-load any iso they wanted, burn it, and it would play.

As for the Wii, this will not stop it's freight-train like sales. Its only the ones that put time into learning how to do it, that'll get the use.

Others won't research, take it all as "frii gamez!! Rofflez!!!1" and brick their system... which will keep others from doing it. (a la PSP).

Can't wait to see what happens now

why would one need there NANDS key? it can already be dumped without anything special useing the FS dumper, and does anyone know what the other keys are actualy for(there needed use) what key is for signing what, or encryting what

The dreamcast didn't die out because of being able to play "backups" without a modchip...

When the Dreamcast came out, there was the N64 killing the market, and the PS1 came out only about a year later.

It was just bad timing on Sega's part. What can you say about the Saturn? It had almost NO life... it was here and gone in a matter of days (figuratively). And I think it was a better console than the PS1, if only they could have signed bigger names to write for it.

AFAIK, the FS dumper does not extract all files, at least I didn't find some of the files I was expecting.
Now you can dump the raw NAND and decrypt it with the key, although someone would still have to make a program for extracting files from its filesystem.

linkinworm; read HackMii.com's "keys keys keys" post and you'll see what they are all for...

zidane_genome: The dreamcast was a way better system then those other consoles, piracy killed it

Dreamcast being better is opinion.
Piracy should have sold more consoles.

True, the saturn was killed off early, but that was because Sega forced out the DC too soon on the heels of the Saturn.

The DC was killed because of piracy, NOT because of the PS1. PS 1 came out in '94 (1 month after the Saturn), and the PS2 came out 16 months after the DC was released, but the PS2 didn't blow up right away. That took about a year.

The DC was a good, stable selling system, until the exploit came out with the coding of the games. Hell, even swapdiscs were out prior, and that didn't effect the system.

All in all, this Wii Key Grabber won't be the end of the wii for piracy sake, or for any other reason.

If you don't know what it's for, I guess you don't need it. Actually there's nothing to do with it.
Maybe it coul be used later by hackers to find another hacking method instead of twilight (just a supposition, I don't know enough), and could be never needed to end user.
if you want to know your own wii keys, you can know.

I suppose it's from Katamari Damacy.
Let's roll the world !

so can someone list the benefits of knowing your Wii's keys?

we can already...

play burned Isos (with a modchip of course)
play Wiiware titles
play VC titles
play most emulators
play Homebrew games
use Homebrew apps

...all with relative ease. i just don't understand what knowing the keys will lead to.

working N64 emulator?
injecting roms made easier?
