Hacking wii disc read error problems

ok, this is a weird problem...

i chipped my wii myself with the OpenWii, and it has been working fine for the past six months....

then during the last week, ive been getting an increasing number of "an error has occurred" black screen when i insert the game....to a point where everything i put in gives me a disc read error... ( regardless of retail or backup )

i havent moved it wii for 4 month so i think its unlikely that the solder points came off....

im just wondering if anyone encountered this before...

Sounds to me if your problem got worse over time and now is at the worst possible point, then your laser is dead.

Have you tried removing Openwii?

Probably wont make a difference but I'd give it a shot if it was the only option left.

Alos, can you buy the DVD drives the wii uses on ebay or somewhere? or maybe from nintendo?

It'd be handy to have spare ones.
