Gaming wii connect 24

Hi, I'm wondering if it is safe for me to switch on wii connect 24, I have a 4.1E softmodded wii and I don't want to update. I have heard contradicting stories about whether or not wii connect 24 updates your system automatically and I was wondering if someone could give a definitive answer on this?

I read on a site a while back, that big N changed their T&c's to auto update the wii, this can be turned off though I think through priiloader or startpatch, someone who is more in the know will confirm this, I still dont have wii connect 24 on because of any over heating issues, which I read was causing other issues

thanks for the reply, that's what I heard too but I have also heard plenty of people that say that it only registers that an update is available and then asks if you want to upgrade when you turn the console on. I may look into priiloader or startpatch as well, thanks.
