Not correct. The key-clip only supports the Wiikey firmware. The Open clip only supports OpenWii.

This is not correct. The key-clip supports Wiikey and Openwii, just like you can convert a real wiikey to an Openwii. The key-clip also supports a few other chips that can be programmed onto an ATmega8. The Open-clip supports openwii and a few other open source chips, but not wiikey.

the confusion comes from Wii-Clip's website as it indicates right on the Open-Clip's page that it supports the wiikey's code

True DVD upgradablity (Programmable in-system), unlike PIC-based modchips

Apart from that, it has the same features as YAOSM)

Can you explain what True DVD upgradability is?
Reading yaosm final release notes, it talks about being able to update drive code but not PIC code by dvd updates. What is the difference between the two apart from one being one the PIC and the other being on the dvd drive?

from what my understanding is that you can only update the PIC once, after that you gotta take it back out and reprogram it if you want to update it

No. There is a certain area on the PIC which can be reprogrammed by DVD, which is the EEPROM (256 bytes on a 12F683), but the Flash (3.5 kilobytes on a 12F683) cannot be reprogrammed.

This means that the majority of the data cannot be upgraded by DVD with current PIC implementations.

Well i want a mod chip with dvd upgradability so it will need to be openwii or i guess wiikey.

So i'll get a key-clip i suppose since you can put wiikey or openwii firmware on that.

I;m not sure if a usb to parrallel will work but i think a pci or pcmcia card will definitely

Thanks i'll look for that.

I just shot wii-clip an e-mail on this issue.

Their response was "no,they are use different schematic."

so...
key-clip can only be programmed with wiikey
open-clip can only be programmed with open-wii/chiip

wii-clip.com the key-clip says, "And it support D2A/D2B and DMS console only, not support the D2C console, and don't support the pins-cut version too."
but open-clip and free-clip do not.
So they do work on D2Cs?

ugh the wii.clip.com website is useless for information.

you are better off sending a email to [email protected]

You can convert them, but they use a different pinout. Therefore, it won't work in the clip on scenario we have here.

So does the FREE-CLIP work on DC2s and the KEY-CLIP doesn't?

Correct

(i think)

No! OpenWii is for DMS/D2A/D2B only
