Hi All,
I am currently working on making some custom banners for use in USB Loader GX.
I have been using CustomizeMii and the base WAD WADder_Base_1.wad as my base and I am able to replace sounds, banner elements and logos fine without issue. I've been using Benzin v1.9.9 to modify the extracted Layout and Animation files.
Editing and recompiling the Animation files works fine (I was able to get a simple fade in effect for the logo).
My issue is with the Layout files (brlyt) once they are edited (even slightly like moving and elements position), recompilied and reinserted into the WAD they result in just a black banner.
So far all i've managed to do is use "Switch-Toolbox" to edit the extracted brlyt file directly. However that only allows me to move existing elements. It doesn't allow me to add anything else in.
Anyone got any advice for building banners in 2025? I've also tried "Wii Layout Editior" but that also errors out with a "given key not found" error.
I am on Windows 11 for context.
UPDATE 1:
Did some more diging, tried the tools on a Windows XP and Windows 7 VM and it made no difference, so its not an OS specific issue. So I delved into the hex data of the files.
So it seems something is broken in Benzin's conversion between XML back to BRLYT is losing some characters.
Looking at the hex data for the brlyt (banner.og.brlyt) exported from CustomizeMii and that same brlyt file, converted to xmlyt, no changes made and then back in brlyt (banner.brlyt) shows that "pictPicture_01" and "pan1pan1" addresses are missing letters after the conversion.
So for now looks like my "fix" is to modify the file post conversion in a hex editor to check for errors.
