So I’m trying to use mGBA to obviously play gba games like pokemon and four swords but no matter where I download the emulator or the rom, the game basically works at a slow pace, including the audio. Frame skip is at 0 so what am I doing wrong?

MGBA is pretty demanding for the hardware. Old 3DS is a lost cause, and New 3DS struggles with many games. If anything you might want frameskip on just to get some games running at a more acceptable speed.
