Because the only people smart enough to do it work at gateway, then smea did that but refuses to release it, and everyone else simply can't do it or doesn't care, a lot of the higher up guys in the 3ds scene have cfw running on their 3ds for a long time, they just don't want to give it away to people since it will cause piracy.
Actually, that's not true, he is releasing it, you must not have seen that on Twitter. He's waiting for the New 3DS to launch in Japan next month.

I was wondering what the hold-up was... I thought it should have dropped by now. Hopefully there's nothing new about the New 3DS that stalls further release.

Hey all,
I've been reading about the state of the 3DS homebrew scene, and I'm curious about something...
Why is a 3DS flash cart (like Gateway needed at all)? Shouldn't you be able to use an NDS flash cart and the on-board SD card to load whatever you want?
My understanding is that the exploit used by Gateway runs a .NDS program, and then loads Launcher.dat code. Once this happens, and a custom NAND is loaded, why can't you run .3DS files off the SD card itself? What am I missing?
Thanks.
Go spend 40-60+ hours a week on something for several months and see if by then end of it you don't at least want your name on it so some stupid kids on the internet don't claim they did all the work, or have some company selling your work and not giving you a dime. Not just online, go do that offline, on your own time, using your own money to make something amazing, and see if you don't want to at least sign your name somewhere.well, it should be possible if anyone wanted to release it anonymously

But now it's all about hackers wanting their signatures on everything, I can understand needing publicity but if something's any good it will make its rounds anyway.
Again, hackers can do whatever they want to. You can keeping kissing their asses as well, maybe they'll give you something if you get them more twitter followers. The part where Gateway exists to make money. If you could run .3ds files directly off the SD card, you wouldn't need gateway to begin with. Gateway's launcher.dat is heavily obsfucated (encrypted and made into a pain to reverse engineer), so it's not like everyone could just go in and change that. on top of that, it's got code embedded that could brick your console, which as far as I remember, can be fixed, but is still a major inconvenience.

Hacking isn't sit down, write a few lines of code, get famous. That's closer to being a script kiddie. It's sitting for countless hours in front of a computer, losing countless hours of sleep, nearly pulling your hair out, and taking apart a puzzle so complex that you wonder if you'll ever get the pieces back together. It's an art form.
Everyone wants name call and talk down on the hackers who don't release things for not wanting to support piracy, but when it comes down to it, they're the ones with the skills, and it's their decision. There are major ramifications to releasing something like that, and the people who are smart enough to make such things, are smart enough to know that. It's one thing to unlock a system to allow it to reach it's full potential, but it's an entirely different thing to unlock a system for theft.
If you want to be able to pirate games for free, go pirate some books and train to gain the skills necessary to do it yourself. Everybody needs to quit complaining that the hackers don't want to just give them their free games. The world doesn't work like that offline, and there's no reason it should work like that online too.

We're also free to talk about them the way we want.

The first three responses to this thread are all you need to read.
GW is useless, you can do everything without flashcard, i just don't know why anyone no released a way to load warez with SD, to my mind the "No, because it will do more piracy" not is true, i just see a Flashcard getting more and more rich day by day.

everybody's just stealing Gateway's work
Everybody else just sits around whining and acting self-entitled saying they want more stuff.
We're not. Or, not me at least. What we have works, but what we should already have is a way of loading roms and homebrew that doesn't "require" a flashcard. We don't because of the ass-backwards morals from the talented "hackers".
...but I'm not going to go hating on smea either.
I just don't like all the complaining on gbatemp about "baww Gateway"...
