Why Does Wii U Have Lower Resolution Than Last-Gen?

    Disney Infinity 2 runs at 1280x672 on Xbawks360 and PS3. On Wii U it runs at 1138x600. I don't own Wii U, but can someone tell me why this is? Isn't Wii U supposed to be more powerful than the Xbawks360 or is it other way.

    Here's the math. On Wii U the game drives 682800 pixels. On Xbawks360 the game drives 860160 pixels. That's 26 percent more for Xbawks360.

    It probably has to do with lazy programmers. :P
    Even some simple 8-bit styled games run terribly on the PS3 and XBOX 360. It's because the programmers didn't take the time to optimize it and it's probably the same with Disney Infinity. But that's just my opinion.

    Why does the game have fucked up resolution on all 3 consoles? It's definitely not a very demanding game

    Lazy programmers.
    Could be that the engine is shitty too(i mean 1280x672 on PS360 for a game like that....).

    The Xbawks360 and PS3 are from 9 years ago though. So the hardware is outdated. Not sure about the Wii U. Maybe it's just weak.

    Is that gaem on the Xbawks/PS3 or the Wii U? Also it doesn't even look that graphically advanced.

    Lightning and textures in the game are awesome, + its 1080p (most of PS3 games are 720p) and it has no jaggies at all.
    And no its PS3/Vita but just wanted to say that the last gen isn't so low tech that can't run games on even 720p aka Disney Infinity 2.

    I would be careful about using number of pixels driven, that way oddness finds itself.

    Anyway the real question is does it appear visually worse, preferably none but significantly so is the one you are really looking for, to the majority of the game's potential audience? If no (and in all likelihood that is the case) then do you need to spend the extra to squeeze that little bit more out on a floundering console*?

    *might not be a problem if your potential audience/revenue stream for this game is higher on the Wii U but that might be a subject for a different day.

    Short version. It is only the Wii U, why bother?

    That doesn't say anything about Wii U. It might be that Wii U is just weaker? Wasn't the PS3 the most powerful last gen? The PS3's cell CPU can do 3D rendering, in addition to the Nvidia GPU. Utilizing both probably makes it more powerful than the Wii U.

    Even if it looks exactly the same, that would still mean Wii U is weaker? More pixels need more power to drive. There's no real "optimizations" anymore when most devs today are lazy and use high-level engines. The game devs only write to the engine. It's the engine devs that write to the console hardware. Engine devs are highly experienced people, so I doubt the engine simply runs like shit on the Wii U.

    Um, no it's not more powerful than the Wii U, that's a fact that's been well-established, it's more powerful than the 360 and PS3, but weaker than the PS4 and Xbox One, sort of in between, it's lazy programming, not the console itself, is the problem. I really wish that bullshit about the Wii U being weaker than the PS3 would cease already. Fact, not opinion, it's all on Disney for having lazy programmers, that's it.

    Again, Wii U more powerful than Xbox 360/PS3 but weaker than the PS4 and Xbox One. Even if it is the weakest console this gen, it's more powerful than the ones last gen.

    I'd have to say lazy devs. Wii U has become the "drop your 360 project into this converter, and publish the results" console for a lot of 3rd-party devs, except there is plenty about the Wii U that must be accounted for if a developer is to take advantage of he hardware. The Wii U has a lot more eDRAM, its CPU has a high IPC and runs on a 4 stage pipeline vs the 360's low IPC with 32-40 stage pipeline, etc. If they are developing (or porting) a game with the idea that they can do it like they do a 360 game, then the results WILL be poor.

    iirc PS3 had a better CPU and 360 had a better GPU.
    Games like Bayonetta works on 60 FPS on 360 and on PS3 around 25-30 FPS and Dead or Alive is 1080p on 360 and 720p on PS3.
    Wii U isn't weaker than PS360, its just that devs still don't know about it and how it works.
    its new hardware and it takes time to get used to it, just like Xbox One plays games on 900p while PS4 does them on 1080p.

    The Wii U has been out about 2 years now, if devs don't know how to optimize their games even remotely for the Wii U at this point then those devs have either never made a console game in their life or they're just straight up lazy as fuck.

    I'm pretty sure it's the latter.

    Doubt it. The PS3 cell CPU actually has the same float-point capability of a GPU. The Cell can push 230 gflops while the Nvidia RSX pushes an ADDITIONAL 192 gflops, combined to equal 422 gflops. The Wii U's CPU is a standard powerPC not suited for float-point, while the GPU pushes 352 gflops. Float-point are the primary calculation used in rendering. 422 > 352. PS3 is better.

    Would've worked if they combine the PS3's RAMs.
    Don't know if related or not but the Wii U's GPU is also newer and therefore supports newer technology, while the PS3's was a hasty slap-on.

    Idk, Bayonetta came out in 2009. That's 3 years after the PS3 release and still the game works 50% worse than on 360.
    And i haven't really saw much 3rd party games on Wii U.
    iirc Dynasty Warriors was bad on it but look at Bayonetta 1 and 2 on Wii U. 60 FPS 1080p, that's some great optimization.

    Yep. I still call bullshit, look it up before you actually make that claim. The Cell wasn't more powerful. Read what others have said, it's not weaker. Period. The Cell was super hard to fully utilize and a pain in the ass to program for and was never fully used in the lifespan. The Wii U is still being realized and getting known, don't be so damn hasty to make quick judgments without any substantiation.
