So, this sounds like a very simple question with very simple answers. But I just have to ask. Lately I been thinking, with conflicting opinions on games in general lately. I been told people like games because it's a challenge, they like challenge. I was told that it feels rewarding to achieve and many other similar things. Honestly I'm not here to say they are wrong. That's their opinion and their right to have one and feel that way. But I don't agree with that. I won't say it's wrong, I only feel is wrong when you try to enforce it on to other people.
I play games to have fun, be entertained and once I can't find that anymore within the current game I'm playing, I move on to a new one. That said, I played games for many hours without finishing it because of this. Some I don't finish because something else more appealing captures my attention until I return to the old one. (This is usually a bad habit of many gamers who have "Backlogs")
I can understand that they enjoy games for the challenge or rewarding they feel from playing them. I feel it sometimes too. But I don't seek challenge when playing games unless I really enjoy it. I played a game like Mega Man so many times, I know all the boss weaknesses and such, but what if i played the game with just the Mega Buster? To me, that's a challenge. One I enjoy cause it wasn't forced upon me like some games would when it comes to challenge. Is not like Ninja Gaiden with clearly problematic designs like spamming annoying enemies you're forced to deal with while jumping over instant kill spikes or pits and very limited options to act on. But some people like that I guess. To them, playing that game for 6 hours just to beat it one time, is not the same idea of fun as someone else who can beat a game every hour 6 times.
I just really hope in the future, people don't come off as having elitelest opinions on how games should be enjoyed. Games are special and always have been to me personally. There is many ways to entertain me with them. Story, character personalities, graphics, music, presentation. I understand the goal of the game is to beat it and I'm sure people understand that already. But but not everyone does it the same way, and you shouldn't have anything against them if they didn't use the same method. As long as the person isn't using unfair means against another player... that's called cheating. (And yes it's also possible to cheat "The game itself" though doubt anyone would care.. unless you tell people you did, then they meme about it to you like that one Sekiro reviewer did)
I'm just curious what are your reasons for playing video games? I may not seem like a hard core gamer or anything with a profound title like I'm sure many others would have. But I never wanted to. I buy my games, get as much fun out of it, and move on or return later. That's the cycle that repeats for me. Sometimes I feel like I overpaid for some games cause I didn't get as much fun as I expected for the price but that's another conversation.
