Hi
I have no prev experience in doing this stuff
So I got this NDSLite and a R4 Gold Pro 2013 from this guy.
I navigated to their website and downloaded the kernel which consisted of 2 files. a _rpg file and a _DS_Menu.dat file.
I put them in a 8GB MicroSD and into the R4.
Now when I load it up and select the R4, both the screens just go white.
Help?

Are you sure you are downloading from the correct website? They all have very similar domain names.

This is the R4
Pretty sure I got the right website

i'm pretty sure you've got the website wrong since www.r4i-gold.com is down, the ones alike it aren't the same you need to have exactly the right firmware and kernal. it's been like that for some time already as well, so try the wood installations, and be sure tou use 2 gb micro-sd cards (fat16)

r4i stands for based on original idea of r4 but patched for DSi, some first gen r4's just were capable of DSI since the firmware was upgradable. your picture says R$ not R4i, thought it is an upgradable firmware edition so it's not that much different... but still means it's possible it's not compitable with over 2 gb cards but check the second webpage i send they even talked about your screen error.

How do you upgrade the firmware of the R4?
I doubt you have to, your SD size should be fine, search on archive.org for "r4i-gold.com" around 2013 or sooner, you may find the right kernel.

no this card is one and the same, they just relabelled the later cards... it's the same card though read and watch the youtube vid first, it's not the official version it's a hacked version of the kernal based on the last update that's why it's called wood. your card is capable of running on 3ds when this console is running on fw 4.5 as far as i understand

i watched the video but I dont get that screen
This is the last screen I get and when I select the Spongebob - i get the white screen

Am I installing it right? Im just supposed to have 1 file and 2 folders in my SD card right?
1 .dat file, and _rpg and the games folder

i'm sure you've got th right one: R4 gold pro 2013 version
what firmware is your console? i mean it only works on DS al versions, DSi fw 1.45 and below and 3ds fw 4.5 and below. if above there's possebly no known way to refive depending on your console type and firmware. your sd-card is it fat16? or fat32? casue that format could mean a world of difference...
forgot one thing... if you've got a normal DS fat or slim or whatever without the i or 3... set the date a few years back in system settings... some carts detect date and had a so called timebomb in it to force costumers to buy a new card when over a certain date.
