Hello guys, I've been reading around I'm just wondering, which Portable Dock is the "best" and more reliable out there?

I've read that some docks might brick the console all together.
I can't carry the original dock around when I travel etc, i just to make it convenient for me until the CFW comes. I don't want to brick it before CFW releases :P

the one sold with your switch is the best

This is the underlying issue btw. Found via a burried reddit post after 7 minutes of googling.

One moth old reddit thread warning against using 3rd party docks in general (N doesnt follow USB C standards, docks that worked for a long time bricked switches after a 5.0.x update).

But please - farm your buying recommendations in here. The go away and brick your Switch.

Erm, none of they are?

If you really want a second dock (And wanted tv mode and not buying the new portable dock thing by nintendo) You have to get a official dock and put it into another shell which is pretty easy to do

The issue is it seems like no manufacturer is following the USB-C rules/standards and Nintendo are the worse it seems, it is best to stick with 100% official parts at the moment, or maybe hori

Turns out I struck debate winning gold on this one.

- Nintendo doesnt adher to USB C charging standards, and openly disregards some of the safety features built into the standard (not discharging capacitors)

- Most third party vendors might as well - in their own ways - with no (economically viable) chance of finding out.

- But, the problem could also result from stadard viable implementations on part of the 3rd party vendor (because N is crafting their own implementation.)

- Meaning that the engineer at the factory should have a deep understanding how Nintendos implementation works (about a 2% chance, I would say..)

- The way the public is set up these days - no one blames manufacturers, because they bought so cheap, there is no expectance of warenty, or accountability really.

- Also the chinese vendors selling that stuff on amazon, or to "house brands" of big retailers, never exist more than six months. Neither do their brands.

- There are reports out there that the first 51 times nothing happened, but the system bricked on the 52 time - or after a certain firmwareupdate (coincidental)?

- And people are trying to solve this issue with personalized recommendations from randos, on brands (which bring out revisions, usually) and Amzon star reviews.

Good luck.

And dont forget to recommend "your choice" to everyone after you've used the device 30 times - and don't say anything once it bricks your Switch at the 51st.

"Aced."

TLDR; This is an issue with neither the Switch nor the 3rd party adapters being standard compliant. Where the issue might show up the first time after 50 or 100 uses. Try solving that with forum recommendations. And amazon "one click buying opportunity" requests.

if you are bored of the original dock just get the shell for 5-6 dollars and replace the pcb in to it.

I've seen that soft bricks from non Nintendo docks are recoverable as long as a NAND dump was done prior.
I've also seen that some bricks require a replacement part to repair.

Any chance that a CFW will prevent 3rd party docks from bricking a Switch? Or is this bad use of USB C a limitation of hardware that will never be resolved?

I would recommend this one.
You only have to salvage the guts from the original dock to put in this smaller shell.
I really like mine :D.

Gonna echo the rest of these responses and suggest the replacement dock shell as well, very easy to assemble and it's great being able to carry it around. Has better airflow as well.

Oh, and the message that stated, that this had nothing to do with this forum, and was purely in here - so a support seeking user could get his fill, was deleted - because of course it was.

I also accused the OP of just and only reading the other thread, where a 3rd party dock bricked user looked out for support - and having the following thought process.

I WANT.
But I dont want brick.
Lets ask them nerd guys.
Tell them I research, that some say it would brick.

So how often would you say you've come to love those "i see that that other guy almost ruined his thing with this" and then immediatly went "i bet, when I farm those guyses opinions (the ones who helped him) - I could get there without brick" and without any research - because of course - just use whatever forum you are in to tell your "I want to buy some stuff" questions.

This is the internet you know. Where mods care more about happy casuals - than to keep the "what should I buy with my moneys" cruft out of an entirely unrelated hacking forum.

Also - which is best and most reliable? Discuss. (Only the best discussions start with those words.)
