Hardware Which controllers work wih HBC and its apps?

I have installed the HBC on my wii.
After I attempted to create a NAND backup with Bootmii (I THINK) I couldn't control it.
I was using a WiiMote and wondered if I needed a Gamcecube controler or Classic Controller.

Could you please post the answer?

HBC and bootmii are different things (though they are both installed from the hackmii installer)

the wiimote should navigate HBC...
bootmii requires either a GC controller or using the power/reset buttons (on the front of the wii)...power to move, reset to select....
