Homebrew Where do i start with dsi homebrew

Please ignore all links to any of these guide sites. You risk destroying your console if you follow the instructions.

There will be easier and safer methods available very soon.

I read the instructions, I cringed. None of this crap is necessary and it's dangerous.
I understand who you are, and you must know that downgrading IS necessary for when rocketlauncher releases. Other parts also talk about doing things necessary for SRLoader to work like installing exploitable games and saves, and also about installing DSiWare backups. With TWLnf, it's really barely dangerous at all.

TWLnf is *just* as dangerous as the other methods.

None of the currently public instructions or tools are safe. Please stop using them and advising other people to use them.

Right now I'm attempting to figure out why a previously modified NAND bricks when something not yet released is installed on it.

I used it and nothing went wrong at all. All you do is downgrade with twlnf, and then install any dsiware you want also with twlnf. The only thing that can go wrong is if you try to install something with a full system memory. Or if you take out your sd card or battery runs out or something like that. If you try to install an invalid dsiware it will just give an error. The only thing the guide fails to mention is that ugopwn won't work if Flipnote Studio has the calendar autoboot on.

I agree with WinterMute. twlnf is not safe. Case in point, it seems to ignore file attributes so they don't get set by files being copied to nand. So when someone installed the new unlaunch exploit that involves a modified TMD file for Launcher, they used twlnf to update the exploit instead of the official installer (which is still a bit unstable and is closed source so I wouldn't recommend using that one either at the moment). The reason for the update was due to a brick risk from using Data Management, DSi Shop, or 3DS Transfer Tool as these apps would see the malformed TMD and delete it. Since twlnf didn't properly set the read only flag for the file when he used the program to manually update the file, He still bricked after the TMD got destroyed after visiting Data Management because the file attribute was never actually updated.

So yeah don't use TWLNF. This is why RocketLauncher doesn't use this and why it wasn't released yet. We were waiting on some proper tools for automating installing it. NoCashes stuff seems fine at the moment but it was explicitly stated on his site that it's still beta and only hardmod users should try it. Would like to know what Wintermute's thoughts on NoCashes installer are. I think it not being open source is a major issue though.

This tweet sums up my thoughts on the twlnf issue:
