even if we could squeeze all the technology needed for HD graphics onto a small handheld, the issue of power would still come up

the psp already has horrible battery life and thats only lower than PS2 graphics...

Yeah I pretty much don't care at all if we ever get HD graphics, it would make no difference to me on a handheld.

everything would be so tiny on such a small screen

100+!!! yeah, i'm the only one that voted that... because i belive we will never have HD in a handheld...

well at least in this DECADE.
Have my flying cars arrived yet?

30 years.
But if you think about how fast technology is getting evolved , maybe 10 years. But by then we probably have already a technology to beam things to other places.

Low Definition is the way to go.

at least all LD-devices are FULL LD™ capable

i think in like 10 years or so HD will arrive on portable devices.

You can buy a 7" 1280x1024 screen, so it's possible to make a widescreen 1280x720 model, slap it on a handheld (see: archos 705)
Add a fuel cell power source and duct tape 2 PSPs together (pun), and viola!

It will fit in my hands

You know what, unless handheld screens explode in size, it won't take too long to achieve HD quality, because the screen is small.
I mean, if you look at 1440P quality movie on 50" monitor at 10cm distance, the visual is crap. Handheld screens are really small and yet they are viewed from like 30cm away, so 640x360 would be HD enough for handhelds IMO.

More sales of PSP would help. The DS is remarkably outdated in terms of hardware, even for a handheld.

For one thing... It uses the exact same dot pitch (distance between sub-pixels) as the first GBA did, to ensure backwards compatible games would look identical. This however means all DS games regardless of developer talent will be at least somewhat grainy in appearance.

Never... Why you might ask?

Think of the costs! Handhelds should be cheap, or at least affordable.

Then again, 10 years later, High definition monitors will probably cost dirt cheap.
