Hacking what speed to burn?????

ok ive seen the question asked alot of times but everywhere there is a different answer.
i dont understand isnt there a conclusive answer to this question??
i have verbatim dvd-r 16x i burned for example red steel at 8x it didnt give any problems but i hear the laser making noises a little i dont know if its normal for that game or not
should i try to burn at 16x like the maximum speed the dvd-r can handle or should i try 4x - everywhere i hear different answers

I think the reason you hear different answers is because no one knows properly. Some people say burn at a speed of half the maximum of media & burner. Like this:
Burner Media Speed
16x 16x 8x
16x 8x 4x
8x 16x 4x
8x 8x 4x

Most people are in agreement though that you should not go below 4x, as it does not give any benefit, but requires much longer to burn.

As for the sound it makes, I don't know whether those should be heard.

There is no conclusive answer.
Every Wii is different and accepts different brands and burn speed.
Just try different speeds and see what works for you.

Personally, Sony DVD-R at 2x works perfectly for me.

If it take 5 minutes burning at 8x or 10 minutes burning at 4x I really don't care. So I just burn at 4x since it seems better for me using TDK DVD+R. Also, sometimes after burning a disk I sometimes drop the disk(yes I am a klutz) so then I pop the disk back and verify it on the pc. Is that a good way to test if it is still working or should I just put it in the wii to test, cause I burn my dvd's at night so I don't feel like waking up everyone on the way to the family room just to test it.

Sorry, meant often no benefit. Most people don't have problems with 4x, so there is no benefit using 2x.

I'm not sure if thats a good way, I guess if the pc drive can read it, the wii should be able to. Otherwise, can't you just walk quietly?

I'm burning at 2.4x (my burner won't go any faster) on TDK DVD+R disc. Everything's working perfectly with that.

It just goes to show how unsure we are of the best speed, mainly as there isn't one!

it all depends on the firmware and media you are using for burning.
If in doubt just check all different speed options you have and test the results in your Wii.

I have burned at all speeds from 2X to 16X and have had no problems with any. I have also used TDK, and Memorex DVD+Rs without any problems.

From my personal experience, using Verbatim's 16x DVD-R, when I burned at 4x on my Pioneer burner, the disc made lots of clicking and noises and didn't read properly in the wii. Burned at 8x it worked perfectly, and have been burning at 8x from that point on.
