What should I get as a first VR headset?

Activating developer mode is far less intrusive and easier to get into even for legality lover
For sure, Dev mode is the easiest part. I have it unlocked on my Quest 2. installing Batman on the other hand... I have Side quest lite on my headset and it still refuses to let me install. I also have the APK and OBB files but I cant figure out how to grant access to the OBB folder. In the end it was left of a hassle to just play Batman on my Quest 3 and I do enjoy having proper color passthrough.

Rofl, guys, this conversation was on tuesday :(
I wish you guys told me earlier if I should have gone with the Quest 3 and avoid the 3s.
Now, it's too late to cancel the order, it's already on its way...
Now tell me, is it really that bad compared to the 3? Should I initiate a return when I get the Quest 3s and order a regular 3 instead?

Virtual Boy.
while you're bullshitting, virtualboy emulator works pretty well on a quest 3... https://sidequestvr.com/app/125/virtualboygo

Honestly, it depends on your intended use, and on how sensitive your eyes are. Rule of thumb is that VR experience is always more enjoyable and even more comfortable, the better the resolution is. The 3s resolution is a good bit less. Also it has less internal storage. If you want to put emulators and roms on the headset, or movies, or stand-alone VR games, then you can do a whole lot more with the quest 3. If you plan on using PCVR games and virtual desktop to watch videos/movies... then that may not be such a big deal to you. Then, you have to decide if the lower resolution is actually worth saving ~$200. Some people literally feel sick, playing VR stuff at lower resolutions. The biggest complaint for the Oculus rift was the "screen door" effect.

Processor and controls are the same, so performance should be the same (except for when a lower resolution might give a slight bump?). I strongly feel that double the storage and superior optics, are well worth the $200 extra.

Hello hello friends.

I'm starting to think about going into VR stuff. I'd like to learn more about it.
If I want to play some PC games in VR, what should I get? If I want to play "other games" in VR, what should I get?**
I know there are multiple brand out there, but are they all compatible with all PC games no matter what? Or are there some hardware restriction? My current GPU is a 3060 ti, but I'll also try to get a 5070 ti in due time (they are all unavailable/already bought by scalper at the moment), do you think it's enough to render games in VR?
If I want a headset with good visual, good audio, good immersion, which brand would you suggest me?
Money is not that much of a problem, but still, I would not pay 1500$ but a headset. I know they can be expansive (a couple hundreds bucks), but there is still a limit, you know ;)

I have a few games I'd like to try in VR, but if you guys have extra suggestions that I should try, feel free to share them here too :)
Thanks

**By other games, I mean that there are mods for some console games, like Breath of the wild, that allows players to play in VR. I'd like to try this too

Thanks for asking the same questions, as I've been pondering on getting a set of VR thingys. :)

1) If you're only using the headset with your PC then there isn't much of a difference outside of headset resolution and better processor.

2) If you are planning to buy games from the Quest Store than you need to consider the following

a - Some game only have VR versions on Quest (Triangle Strategy, Civilization 7 and Resident Evil 4 come to mind)

b- expect to see more Quest Store releases ditch the Q2 in favor of the Q3. It already started with Batman.

c - You get proper AR on the Quest 3. The passthrough cams on the Quest 2 are in black and white because they're infrared cams. The Q3 has fully colored passthrough cams. You could literally use the damn thing as a headset PC with a physical keyboard and mouse if you wanted to.

Thank you. This suffices my curiosity into the VR world. :D

I'm trying and trying and trying, but I just can't find the solution...

I'm using SteamVR to stream my PC games to my Quest (with Steam Link), but none of them seem to boot in "VR mode".
They do boot in VR mode, but they stream on a flat screen, mid-air inside the virtual space.
Even if all those games are tweaked to be playable in VR (side-by-sde), my Steam Link still considers all of them as "regular games" that should be played in 2D.
I tried following online tutorials, but all of them either don't fix my problem, or talk about something completly different (which annoys me a lot. Google/Youtube can be real bitch when you are searching for a solution to a specific problem)

Is there any solution for that? I don't have any option to switch from "2d view" to "side-by-side" view when in Steam Link/Steam Home/Steam VR (I don't know why they needed that many names just for that)
