I was on a Sony Xperia 5 II for about 4 years and recently switched to a Pixel 9 Pro. The Pixel build quality/stoutness is much sturdier and more impressive than the Sony, and using it isn't much different because the Sony also had "clean" Android on it. But the Pixel lacks a microsd slot, which pisses me way the fuck off. But the Pixel was free, a promotion offered by Verizon that I qualified for when I bought new iphones for my wife and daughter. $800 phone for free, I couldn't really say no.
SD card slot and headphone jack. I had to buy an adapter for it.

It's stupid they got rid of the SD card slot as that's something I really liked over iOS, but still I much rather use Android for its freedom than the iOS system.

Pixel 9a.

The fact it has 7 year support makes me extra keen to use it and I just like Pixel phones than Samsung ones these days.

iPhones? Not for me, but my gf has one (16 Pro) and I installed Brave, ReVanced-like, Bitwarden, etc to make it easier for her to use.

At least iPhones now use USB-C than the proprietary Lightning port. :)

Motorola Razr 2023

the first one I had to send back for repair as one day it suddenly got hairline cracks in the middle of the screen where it folds, I had it charging while closed in a cold apartment and opened it outside in the heat and I heard a slight "pop"

other than the outer display showing the wrong day of the week on the weather panel (today's Monday but it says Sunday), and some Motorola bloat, it's honestly a good phone

I don't think I'll ever get another phone without the faux leather backing because it just feels so secure, like it will never slip out of my hand

Interesting how popular Android is here. I wonder if that's because the forum is global or because the forum's focus is games and hacks and stuff.

I have an iPhone. It's ok. It's obviously designed to be addictive and I don't like that. I liked my Nokia 1020 better and it was a genuinely nice product to use.

Galaxy J5 2016 with LineageOS 17.1 (recently) but somewhat it drain more battery, I noticed that custom rom overclock snapdragon 410 from 1,2 to 1,6Ghz which makes it overheating (at least what sensors at cpu z says) and one core doesn't go under 80% whole the time. Battery safe plan doesn't reduce the clock... devs please its an old 28nm cpu from 2013.

I found some other build with different kernel in boot.img, this one is overclocked to 1,45Ghz but at least it frequently goes under 25% in idle switching cpu to 200Mhz per core, it makes a lot of difference for battery, and effectivity is boosted too. After one night testing power goes down ~1%, deep sleep mode is even more effective than stock firmware.

I'm curious what aspects of the phone itself you think are designed to be addictive? Mobile apps as a whole I understand, but I've never felt the OS doing anything specific. Not that I've been looking out for it either though.

Probably a bit of both, but I reckon it's mostly the former reason. Globally, Android:iOS is sitting at a ~3:1 ratio. It's mostly just in the US where iOS is more popular, at ~2:3.

My phone service kicked out my old phone at 5 years old (aka no data), so I had to upgrade to a moto g stylus 2025. I miss having a right swipe that can JUST be another homepage. They make the right page a Google feed in moto OS. Their version of apps also suck, so I had to FOSSify some apps like the photos and notes app.

I remember the good old days where I could set any of my home screen pages the main one that is shown at first. Then, everything got simplified to have the leftmost home page be the main one with an embedded app (usually Google) to the left of that.

I'm sure there are some third-party launchers that can still do it, but I'm too lazy to switch to something else and this ‘modern solution’ is ‘good enough.’

Oh mood. I asked nicely on reddit and got like 7 recs ...but seriously I'm too busy fixing a bsod to do phone stuff rn.

My first was a Nokia 1611.
I kept it until I got my hands on an Motrola Razer V3i.
Then had a couple of Samsungs with BadaOS and later Android, due to work I had a short glimpse at iPhone 4S but didn't like it. So I went back to Samsung Galaxy S7, then OnePlus 6 and now it's a Google Pixel 7 that I will probably use until it rots away in my hands :D

I have both a Pixel 6a and Pixel 4a because apparently my type is Google phones with battery issues discovered after launch.

Not sure I want to go for another pixel again and seriously considering the nothing phones this time around.

iPhone 15. Dumb things have been happening with it like the touch screen not working sometimes and when I want to send a photo in a text I have to hit it twice cuz it doesn’t open my photos the first time. I take care of my phones so there’s no reason for this.
