So I got a console that wouldn't start. Got it up and running but this is what loads. I think it's some sort of light test OS from the factory but I've never seen it before. Anybody familiar with this? Is this worth anything or should I attempt to load a firmware on here?

This is the special version of the OS installed to verify the unit is functional at the factory, before it's flashed with production firmware and boxed up.

They sometimes forget to do the second thing.

It's very interesting to developers, and not-so-interesting to people who want to play games.

Is the unit vulnerable to the RCM bug?

You should dump the firmware off of it (the files inside the SYSTEM partition).

Full factory firmware dumps are *very* rare, and very valuable for understanding the system's factory process.

Very valuable as in money? Or knowledge? I don't plan to become a developer but if there's cheddar in it I'll do it:D:D

Knowledge. There isn't really money in this.
If I dump this firmware would you like a copy?

Also would it be okay to load a newer firmware or should I just sell it on eBay the way it is?

The best you can do from a for-the-betterment-of-knowledge perspective is to send it to someone who archives firmware like darthsternie or something. In lieu of that, post it publicly, and in lieu of that "yeah".

You're better off selling it this way, I think.

I would say dumping the firmware and having it achieved in the community before selling would be a good idea but that's just my two cents worth(I also archive what firmwares I can get)

Hey nice find! I also have a unit like the one you posted, but mine is mariko, and I can't dump the firmware easily.

Oof I'm not sure if you could dump it, maybe you could transfer the nand into a RCM unit and do it that way, I dunno if that would work though, maybe @SciresM could confirm?
