Gaming What is Sword and Shield’s Encounters like?

I stopped playing Pokemon years ago (Fire Red being the last) in part due to finding random battles annoying, but I noticed in a video today about the games that there were pokemon in the world map and not a sudden encounter.

I also read somewhere from prelaunch that you actually get a warning now before an encounter when in grass.

So do random battles like the older games still occur or has it changed so it’s not unexpected and possibly avoidable?

Big surprise for me the game, I like it a lot. I find the game excellent I did not bother once.
