IIRC (it's been a while)...
AMD came out with "bulldozer", a codename for one of it's architecture refreshes... this is not an uncommon thing to do at all, in fact coming out with new architecture revisions every 2-3 years is completely normal for AMD and Intel, and they usually just decrease power drain and/or increase efficiency a bit (or add some minor feature).
However AMD saw fit to advertise Bulldozer as being this amazing new unicorn-fartsparkle stuff, and when it came out it turns out it actually had a bug in the design that made it perform worse. People were not happy.
