I never even knew you could play PS1 games on a PSP before today. I think I'm gonna get one just for that. That's my second favourite console behind Sega Master System.

But I was wondering what else it can do. This is what I've figured out:

-Play PS1 games
-Play N64 games (but not at full speed)
-Emulators for all the other older consoles and GBA
-Movies in MP4, which is a hell of a lot better than DPG (especially on that nice screen!)
-Mp3 and all that other kind of media you'd expect
-PSP roms

Is there anything else I'm missing? Any other essential homebrew or other cool information?

Any annoying things? I guess you're limited to having only a few PSP or PS1 ISOs on your memory stick. What's the largest size? 4GB? 8GB?

8GB is currently the largest, and only manufactured officially by Sony (there are fakes though).

As for what else it can do.. there are various homebrew that you may find useful. There are pdf readers (not sure if it is natively supported, but it is through homebrew anyway), remote control (in the fat PSP), etc.

Lots n' lots of things. PSPkick is my favourite

not only can you play media (both audio and video) from the memory card inserted into your PSP, it can wirelessly access media from your PS3 AND PC.
It's useful when you want to queue a download from PSN while at work, grab a PSP, download it and even play it.

Thanks for your replies.

It's pretty hard to sort through all the recent developments and mountains of homebrew by yourself.

Wireless access sounds sweet.

Yeah but no doubt it will be (I think it will take a while but not a long while, just my estimate). I guess there is also no guarantee it will be though I beleive it will. But if you want a PSP that's guaranteed to do what you want and right now then I guess you could pick up the old model.

i'm getting the psp slim package no matter what. i'm not a big fan, but a games and the season(s?) of family guy for 200 bucks in total. that's a pretty good deal. i'd probably use a lot of homebrew and emulators though. i hope there isn't some added protection though, that would suck. but yeah wait for the slim, like 1 and 1/2 months and get the package!

Even if you don't especially want the PSP Slim, wait for it to come out anyway. Why? The prices for the original PSP will drop so your expenses will be a good bit less.

It's probably going to take a while for the PSP Slim to be hacked, and normal PSPs aren't that expensive anyway- They usually go for around $125 with the value pack bundle.
