What do you think the dock is capable of?

  • External Gpu inside the dock.

  • Minor improvement with no restriction of thermal and battery life, and add a few ports.

  • A standalone unit like a typical console.

  • Massive power scaling, which the tablet has a powerful yet restricted gpu inside.

  • Some post processing unit to make the visual better on tv, like the psvr dock.

I think the dock is primarily just a heatsink and constant power supply, allowing the chip to run at a slightly higher power-and-heat envelope.

I think it's possible that Nintendo could come out with a Dock Plus which has an eGPU, but it would make sense to force Developers to discard such a notion until after the Switch is released and has a full library. Providing it at launch could enable lazy developers and set the groundworks for a Wii U-level disaster.

Well they alredy said it's a hybrid console, so the deck must have something to add power to the principal part.
If it doesn't, then it would be a lie.

Best case scenario:

- Passive cooling
- High perfomance mode similar to plugged-in Laptops
- HDMI pass-through
- SD Card slot
- 2.5" HDD/SSD slot
- Ethernet port
- 2 extra USB 2.0/3.0 ports on the back of the dock

I highly doubt that it is going to be anything better than that.

Define plugged-in Laptops. Gaming laptops are in the same realm of power with or without power source. Just stability.

What I am speculating is that they are going to increase the cpu's clock speed to a certain degree, since they will not have to worry about battery life while the console is on the dock.

Well that's what I am saying, but there has never been any major power scaling in pc before. Wait until everyone copy Nintendo's hardware tactic. But of course most manufactures cannot push the power that far. On the other hand, remember note 7 explosions?

I never stated that it is going to yield any sort of major perfomance boost. I should probably clarify that by High Perfomance I meant upscalling or rendering to 1080p depending on the game. Maybe some sort of more taxing AA/AO as well.
