So I used to have a telnet (or rather a standard connection) client for windows, and I can't remember what it was.
When I told it to connect to a machine on a port, it'd report all the responses/info, so I'd get to see a response of the service on that port was functional and accepting connections on that port and all that jazz (so it was more than just telnet). I'm not getting the same sort of thing with the windows telnet client, or PuTTy.
