I just installed Homebrew using the steelhax method, but don't know how to install custom apps. Specifically what I'm looking to do is install a save manager so I can extract and edit saves. (Though if anyone knows how to install a play coin setter or edit Streetpass data that would be much appreciated as well)!

I don't really use steelhax but from the looks of it, you should have the JKSM 3dsx file within the Homebrew Launcher that it boots you into. If not, I know you can download it from Github and put in your 3ds folder but I don't know if you'll need the smdh and xml files to make it work. Those come with it when you install it via cia that I don't know where to download those two. That being said, I don't know if you can install apps without CFW and stalling them by the cia file. If there is a way I haven't seen about it.

I got it to work! It was actually as simple as putting the .smdh, .xml, and .3dsx in the 3ds folder. I'm still not entirely sure how CFW is different from Homebrew though.

cfw allows installing of non signed .cia files. Which is what freeshop has loaded in it. You can download and install such files. There is more aswell to cfw.
