try formatting it to WBFS and installing a game on your PC first then plug it in the bottom usb slot

or the left if looking from front of wii.

Are they WBFS formatted?? You can do that using WBFS manager 3.0.1, format the first partition to WBFS.

One thing you might want to note is depending on your drive, it might spin down in save power mode. My big external does this and I have to unplug, then replug to spin it back up and initialize with the loader. However, if I use a laptop external USB powered device it doesnt have this issue.

Yes you can technically but you shouldn't or it will sotp USB Loading and delete everything on it. Partition it first.

Well, some crucial info was left out here. Do you have cIOS rev10 or higher installed? Have you tried both USB slots? rev 12 and higher only support the bottom USB slot. If so, I would say that it is incompatible. However, you can try the suggestions above, and see if it works.

Yes, you can format it back to FAT after formatting to WBFS. I doubt he will have a spin down issue with a USB stick. [IMG]
