Hi, yesterday I softmodded my Wii (so I'm very new to this), and I have
some game backups my uncle didn't need anymore. So I got USB Loader GX
and started it up, it recognizes my USB-Stick and all the games on it, but no
matter what game I try to play it just goes back to the Wii menu. How can I fix this?

two things :

1)
FLASHDRIVES DON'T WORK.

you might call it usb stick, usb key, thumb drive, even just "usb", or whatever else the world use. they are NOT COMPATIBLE WITH cIOS.
always use a real external HDD.

2)

either :
set the loader setting to use slot250
OR
reinstall your slot249 with d2x v8 final, or d2x v10 r52, and choose base56 instead of 37 AND still select slot250 in your loader because base57 is better.
OR
reinstall your slot249 with d2x v8 final, or d2x v10 r52, and choose base57.
sure, it'll be duplicate to your slot250, but you won't have to edit the loader's setting as it uses slot249 by default and will find "base57" in it.

1) Ok, I will transfer the games to an HDD, guess that should work?

2) Will do both and report back!

1) yep, that should fix your issue :)
be sure to plug it in USB Port 0 (bottom port on Wii)

the loader is compatible with FAT32 and NTFS.
be sure it's not formatted as exFAT.

best choice is FAT32 so it also work with all other homebrew.

2) for now, and to be faster, just go to usbloadergx settings> loader settings > loader's IOS and game's IOS : change 249 to 250

some HDD might have initialization issue with cIOS (20sec init screen will freeze or end without detecting the drive). If that happen, set the loader's IOS to 58, and be sure to re-select Wii games from top menu, 4th icon.

1) I am now using an 160GB HDD, plugged in to 0, formatted to FAT32
2) I have installed d2x v10 r52 base 57 in Slot 249, and selected 249 in Loader settings
3) d2x v8 final is not available to install for some reason? and i can not set the Loaders IOS to 58

But still when I'm starting a game, i get sent to the Wii Menu...

if v8 is not available it's because you found an installer with only v10 inside.
that's fine, r52 is the same as v8. just don't use r53 (it's beta and has issues).

if it reset to wii menu, it means it couldn't find the game.
how did you install the game to HDD ? manually copied the file with your OS, or did you use WiiBackupManager the way it's meant to? (because some people just use it to convert, instead of transfer)
be sure to use that program, because manual copy is door to mistakes.

I just copied it to the drive, will do it with Wii Backup Manager now.
The problem is, i don't own a Windows PC so i will have to find a way to boot the exe on my Mac or do you know of a
Mac Version for this program?

mac has 2 good programs.
WijManager and WiiBaFu. I recommend WiiBaFu.
Same as WiiBackupManager, instead of using them to convert, be sure to use them to transfer/install the game to your HDD. it'll rename and place the game to the right layout.

But if you want you can do it manually.

the game must follow this rule:
usb:/wbfs/<title you want> [TitleID6]/TitleID6.wbfs

for example
/wbfs/New super Mario Wii [SMNP01]/SMNP01.wbfs

The TitleID is important because it's what the filename must be. the titleID in the folder's name is not important (but speed the loading). The filename must use the correct titleID.
if you don't know the titleID, you can either :
- search on Gametdb.com (be sure to match the correct region)
- open the ISO or WBFS in hex editor, look at the 6 first ASCII Letters/numbers of the ISO, or at 0x200 for wbfs. don't use the hex numbers, but their ASCII values. for example attached picture at 0x200 is "SMNE07"
screenshot_0175.png

if you have iso instead of wbfs, you'll have to use NTFS instead of FAT32. the advantage to using managers is that it extracts the game's content from the ISO (for example, the ISO is always 4.37GB, but New Mario wii is only 400MB once extracted in wbfs format and fit on FAT32 without problem).
I don't know if Mac can format in NTFS.
