I know people have had this issue before but I've done everything I could find online from previous threads and none of it helped, so I'm hoping you can help me somehow.
I installed HBC, installed cIOS236, installed IOS 56 v6661(I think) as 249, and IOS38 as 250, and got USB Loader GX.
I also have a Skyward Sword .iso that, when tested on an emulator on my PC, works just fine, but when loaded onto my hard drive(WBFS format and WBFS manager used), and plugged into my Wii, can't be loaded properly from USB Loader Gx. The disc appears, and even makes the little jingle when I select it, the name's right and everything, but when I click the disc, instead of loading the game, it just restarts from the main Wii Menu.
I'm using 4.3U and have IOS58 running BTW.

installed IOS 56 v6661(I think) as 249, and IOS38 as 250,
What?
you either didn't understood what to do, or don't explain it very well.

1. you don't need to install IOS 236
2. you don't need to install IOS 56 (you already have it, and it's an official IOS from nintendo, it will NOT allows you to play backup)
3. you don't need to install IOS 38 (you already have it, and it's an official IOS from nintendo, it will NOT allows you to play backup)

It returns to System menu because you don't have the correct IOS installed in the correct locations.
and/or you never watched the Wiimote+ instruction video on your console. (you need d2x v7 or newer to prevent reboot to system menu)

What you need :
install a custom IOS in slot 249 :
You need to install the custom IOS version "d2x v8" based on IOS 56.
You don't install IOS56 v66661 in that slot, you install the "IOS d2x v8 based on IOS56" version 21008.

install a custom IOS in slot 250 :
you need to install the custom IOS version "d2x v8" based on IOS 57 (NOT 38...)
You don't install IOS38 or IOS57 in that slot, you install the "IOS d2x v8 based on IOS57" version 21008.

that's all.

Use this installer :
http://www.mediafire.com/download/5ggh53tj9hhp1tr/d2x-cios-installer-3.1-v6-v7-v8-v10-wii.7z

extract to your SD card, launch it from HBC.
Select this with Left-right on your wiimote, then press A to install :

What : d2x v8 Final
where : slot 249
base : IOS56
version : 21008

after installation, you go back to that screen and select this now:

What : d2x v8 Final
where : slot 250
base : IOS57
version : 21008

cIOS installation done!
you don't need anything else.

Launch USBLoaderGX from HBC (r1233 or newer, not 3.0c r1180)
Go to settings > loader settings > Loader's IOS : 249
Go to settings > loader settings > Game's IOS : 249

thank you! That fixed it, at least as far as I've tested so far. Do you happen to know if I need any other cIOS to make Dios Mios work and not just load a black screen when I select my games?

DIOS MIOS is a replacement of your MIOS slot.
unlike the IOS, you have only one MIOS Slot, so if you install one it will replace the previous one.

install BC v6 (this version is required to prevent black screens, but it's not enough to prevent ALL black screens)
install DIOS MIOS v2.11 if you want to play backups from USB, or retail disc from drive (but requires a working USB drive connected).
install DIOS MIOS Lite v2.11 if yo uwant to play backups from SD, or retail disc from drive (but requires an SD card connected).
install MIOS v10 (the official from nintendo) if you want to play retail disc from drive

Black screen using USB can happen in two different location:
before the splash screen : it's a HDD issue. Try another HDD.
after the splash screen : it's a game or video mode issue. Try different settings.

you can also try using another Gamecube backup loader :
- DIOS MIOS Lite and games on SD card (it's easier to setup and has better compatibility than USB).

- Devolution
- Nintendont
these two loaders don't need any IOS/MIOS installation.

Hey umm... where do I download the bc v6? Also I tried downloading DM v11 but I only found a WAD that I couldn't find anything different after installing it.
EDIT: Actually, I don't think I need it. Nintendon't looks like it works great :)

BC is an official IOS from nintendo.
you can find it in Wii games (extract Wii game files from update partition using Wiiscrubber or WiiXplorer)
You can find it on nintendo update servers (use NUSD)
You can find it on ModMii

install it as wad to replace/update the system file.

Same for DIOS MIOS and DIOS MIOS Lite, it replace the system file "MIOS".
it's a wad file that you install using a wad manager.
Wad file doesn't mean that it will appear on your system menu!
only channels are visible, wad is a container to install any files, channels or other files (IOS, etc.)

so installing DIOS MIOS wad file, it's normal you didn't "see" anything different.
there's nothing to see, but you succesfully replaced your "MIOS" slot.
you can now use a loader which put the console in Gamecube mode, and DIOS MIOS will launch instead of MIOS.

What would you recommend trying if you have already installed:
What : d2x v8 Final
where : slot 249
base : IOS56
version : 21008

What : d2x v8 Final
where : slot 250
base : IOS57
version : 21008
..AND...
DIOS MIOS v2.11 (from a wad)

... and launching GC from WiiFlow still ends up with a black screen?

Black screen before the DIOS MIOS Splash screen = HDD compatibility issue.
try another HDD, or first try SD Card+DML to check if the issue is your game/setting or your hardware.

Thanks Cyan. SD+DML works, so I assume my drive is incompatible.
