It won't see my HDD no matter what I try to do. It's formatted to exfat and iv'e tried multiple things but it's just not working...

    I'm running 4.3U

USB loader GX is 3.0 r1262

When I do launch the application it does mention something about it using IOS58 and how certain channels won't appear? not sure if that has anything to do with it..

I tried using WBFS manager before to move my backups (for wii games) but it was a nightmare and refused to format my drive so I got wii backup manager and I wasn't sure what I was suppose to do..I thought maybe the reason why the games weren't showing up was because they needed to be a certain file format or something but that didn't seem to help either. It also can't see my gamecube games(speaking of which Nintendont can't seem to see my HDD either..)

It's in the NTFS file system but i'm not sure if that matters.

I also tried changing it to exfat and fat32 and it still says the same thing.

I looked up my HDD model. I didn't see it in the compatibility list but here's mine anyway:

WD My Passport 1TB 2.5 USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive (WDBYNN0010BBK-WESN) - Black

    http://www.wiihacks.com/showthread.php?t=36504 compatibility list

I have a WD digital 1TB HDD if that helps.

Not sure what else i'm doing wrong..

    not compatible.
where did you read exFAT would be a good partition format for USBLoaderGX?
if a guide told you that, it's a bad guide. I'm curious to know which one.

    compatible partition format :
    WBFS without partition table
    WBFS with partition table
    FAT16
    FAT32
    NTFS
    Ext2
    Ext3
    Ext4 (read only?)
    MBR, GPT, EBR

Nintendont is not compatible with NTFS.

changing to FAT32 (like you did) was the solution. Every devices, every consoles, every homebrew, everything are compatible with FAT32. there shouldn't even have a need to wonder which format to use for homebrew on any plateform or console. FAT32 is compatible on phones, media players, windows, mac, linux, cars, PS2, PS3, Wii, Gamecube, WiiU, Xbox, 3DS, DS, Snes, etc. and it's often the ONLY compatible format.

but you mentioned you have a message about IOS58, it means you didn't softmod your Wii correctly.
actually, you are missing a file which is used by USBLoaders : d2x cIOS

I wrote (50 times) the same guide everywhere on the forum to explain what is needed and how to fix your problem.
I don't have time (right away) to find one of these posts or write a guide from scratch again. I'll reply again when I have few minute of free time.
or just find one of my post in a "how to softmod a wii easily in 2017?" thread, or something like this.

I know but it's fat32 now as I said because I used a program to do it(windows didn't have fat32 as an option only exfat) I don't know even how to make the games show up because in wii backup manager it says it needs to be NTFS to move an iso so do I have to transfer my backup as WBFS?

I did what you said in step 5 and put it in slot 249 in the map. Then I changed the loadout in settings to 249, loaded USB loader up and it hung on the "Loading... Initialize USB device" I changed the USB port and it said waiting for HDD, 20 seconds pass, then it did the countdown again and it loaded but when I tried setting it to only show wii/GCN games it gave me the initialize error again..

I did alter some files previously if that matters, I was just doing my best trying to follow a guide and I first got IOS236 v6 and installed that, then I used something called cIOS installer Rev21 and installed that..still doesn't seem like this is getting me any closer to playing wii/gcn games (GCN is a whole nother nightmare I have a topic about nintendont not working to..)

Ok I did all that but it's still saying the same thing. I don't have anything on the HDD now. Is there something else I have to do? do I need to make a separate partition on my HDD or something?

EDIT: It seems like I screwed something up now by changing the loader to IOS 249 because now it won't even load.(it freezes on the HDD loading screen..) switched ports, loaded this time but I didn't even get a chance to try and check wii/gamecube games to on it just gave the message as soon as it loaded about it not being able to initialize.

I couldn't remember what the default IOS loader was but when I tried to leave it blank it left it at 200 so I just went with that, restarted the wii again and when it did the "waiting for HDD" countdown I switched back to the port nearest to the edge of the wii and it froze at the last 3 seconds..

Wii Backup Manager is used to convert the ISO to wbfs automatically and place the result in the correct location on the hard drive in order to let the USBLoader find the game.
if you choose where to save the game ISO or wbfs yourself, you'll probably make a mistake and the loaders will not see any games.

You installed a cIOS in slot249, and now you have "loading .... initializing USB Device" : That's good ! 249 is NOT the problem, don't try to fix or change it.
    it's not an error, it's not a problem ! it's what you want !
don't follow old guide who tell you things about IOS236, you'll mess your console with unnecessary files and modification.
if you followed the "cIOS installer Rev21" then YOU DID WRONG.
I told you to follow MY step5, not follow an old softmod guide with outdated and bad system files.
if you followed the old guide, and launched the rev21 installer, just re-do the step5 and re-install d2x v8 final base57 in slot 249 again, it will overwrite it with the correct version you need.

Now that you have d2x v8 final with base57 in slot 249, let's move to the next step : setting the loader correctly.

Launch the loader (with or without the HDD plugged, it's faster if it's not plugged)
    go to settings > loaders settings > Loader's IOS : replace 249 with 58
exit the loader, plug the drive, reboot the loader.
now all is working fine, if you never messed with your IOS58 of course as ALL homebrew are depending on that single system file. Maybe that's why nintendont is not working for you ? maybe you messed it with a random guide or random action you did in the past without knowing what you were doing.

I don't understand why users are making it over complicated when it's just a three steps guide to softmod all Wiis.
(step 0. update the Wii to 4.3)
    1. install HBC
    2. install d2x v8 final
    3. launch USBGX and set the loader's IOS to 58
    4. optionally, set the default gamecube mode to the one you want to use (I guess : nintendont) instead of MIOS.

Plug HDD to USB port 0 (not port1 !), the one at the bottom, near the edge of the wii
additional steps are : use WiiBackupManager and a FAT32 drive to put games on it, with the proper (I explained in the thread I linked) setups. an no, default setup is not the best for WiiBackupManager.

No, I already tried that. And it still isn't working(note I don't have any games on the HDD right now but the point being that when I check gamecube/wii it should just do it but it still gives the initialization error)

I should note it no longer says anything about asking to load an HDD and when I set it to show just GCN games it seems to have no problem(I don't have any GCN games yet) but it only makes a fuss if I try to keep wii games checked.

    Should I just use modmii?

EDIT: https://gyazo.com/e2fea98a8c0e90b56a426cee85333f84 sigh...why is it missing files?

Some of the files I got from modmii..

Please help, i'm probably gonna throw this thing in the garbage if this keeps going. Iv'e done everything correctly but it still isn't working for me..

And you didn't tell me how to fix the other files that I mentioned earlier. Do I need to do anything there?

modmii will replace all your current system files with the one it prepared for you.
most of them are identical so you don't need to replace them, it's just taking risk and dangerous for no reason, some are unnecessary (for korean Wiis only), and some are old softmod files not needed anymore.

You can follow modmii and install all these files, but it will not affect any current issues, as every program running on the console uses only ONE system file at a time, and all the others are not conflicting, not in memory, not used at all.
when you are in USBLoaderGX, it uses either the slot249 or the slot58 (based on the setting you set). all the other slots are as useful as not having them installed.

so, if you have an issue, it's either the current IOS, or your setting (loader setting) or your hardware (hdd, partition format, files etc.)

What I don't understand is : what is wrong now ?
you said you don't have any error message anymore, and all seems to work fine except ... you don't have any game on the hard drive to be listed in the loader.
maybe you should add games to see if it works?
what's the current issue? I didn't catch it, sorry.
Maybe try a reset settings (settings > reset) ? you'll probably have to set the loader's IOS back to 58 after the reset or your HDD will not be recognized again. but that's the only thing you need to change along with the gamecube mode (nintendont I guess?).

Also, about your "other files" I might have miss it too. No idea what you are talking about.
I tried to re-read your messages but still didn't see which files you meant.

I see you mentioned that you don't know what to do now that you have an empty hdd.
you created a single partition ? or multiple partitions? (either choice are fine, I just want to know in case it could be a problem with the format)
format the drive in FAT32 with 32k/cluster (usually, people are using GuiFormat / FAT32Format)

once the partition is created, use Wii Backup Manager to put a Wii game on it (if you have a Wii ISO on your computer), or just plug the drive in the console, launch USBLoaderGX and insert a game disc. choose "install" to dump/copy the disc to HDD.

if you need help how to use WiiBackupManager, I'll copy/paste another of my message posted somewhere in this forum.

I pretty much gave up on the HDD and decided to just buy a 128GB thumb drive instead in hopes that would work better. I also put all my homebrew on it and it seemed to show it so it's working...

well, it was. Now the fucking thumb drive won't show up either and it's doing that freezing shit again. I was even able to get a GCN game working before(no wii games showed up yet but I just moved a wii ISO to my root so maybe that's why but i'll deal with that later..) right now I just want to know why it's doing this. Can USB loader GX only run on an SD card or something? i'll edit my post if anything new comes up..

EDIT: Ok everything seems to work now after putting it on a thumb drive instead. The only issue now(and it's not a terrible large issue but some info on this would be appreciated.) it says something about needing the nintendont loader path in order to play GCN games. I put the nintendont folder in the apps folder on the thumb drive, and it doesn't want to see it. But when the SD card is inserted it seems to be fine? can Nintendont only work on SD or something?

I should also mention when choosing USB mode from nintendont and loading the GCN games there they seem to work fine. Just not in USB loader GX.. which is a little annoying but i'll live lol.

It just kinda sucks my HDD didn't work, and i'm pretty sure for whatever reason mine is just not going to work but oh well 128gigs should suffice for backups..

Should I try resorting those other files I tried modifing?(the ones I mentioned before specifically IOS236 and the cIOSX rev21) to whatever they were before? just wondering if it will cause issues as I don't want any problems in the future..

Another thing where can I get channel shortcuts for USBGX and nintendont? I had some I was using but I just had a black screen.

You have to set the path to the Nintendont dol in the Custom Path settings.

I hate to tell you this, but flash drives are even worse on the Wii. The USB Loader GX forwarder is in the first post of the main support thread and the Nintendont one is in its thread. The Nintendont forwarder generally freezes when exiting a GC game, though.

You can't restore IOS236 to the state it was before ... because it didn't exit before. you added it.

You can't restore what you did by installing cIOSx rev21, because... if you correctly installed d2x AFTER rev21 tutorial, then you already don't have rev21 anymore in your slot249.
Of course, if you didn't follow all the requirement I told you in the correct order, then your setup is a mess.
Also, I see you try things by yourself in last resort, because you think you should try instead of waiting (which I can understand) but it seems to me you are impatient and might do something wrong if you don't wait for our help.

like Greywolf said, flash drive are even worse than HDD. But you decided/thought it was better without asking first.

I'm almost sure something is wrong in your setup.
Maybe you can post a syscheck log, just to see what you ended installing in slot249.
you can follow the tutorial in my signature.

Also, I'm curious to see how your HDD is formated, which and how many partitions, etc.
Also, you mentioned "puting an ISO on root", that's not possible if your drive is FAT32 as ISO are bigger than 4GB.
if you could put 4.7GB ISO then your device is wrong.
if you put wbfs files on root, that's wrong too. Like I said : STOP doing the copy manually and START using WiiBackupManager to put games on the drive.

if you need a tutorial to use that program, I'll write (again) a new one.
but maybe I should write one anyway because you might think you know how to use it, while you don't? few users are using it the wrong way.

try it with another loader like a cfg or wiiflow. I recomended to use cfg. or check your usb cable or usb port on your wii. make sure the conmection is good.

what do you mean by worse? like in terms of compatibility?

Everything seems to be working now like I said only thing is I still need the SD cards to make certain things work but it's not a huge deal. It just be nice in case the SD card goes missing or whatever. So far I haven't had any problems getting games to show up now but iv'e read people get crashes and stuff when it comes to GCN games so i'll just have to play and see.

btw if I want to make another virtual memory card do I have to do it through nintendont? or can I somehow do it through USB loader GX? regardless the flash drive I got seems to actually be working now unlike my HDD.

I supplied a syscheck anyway though. I tried to get this version: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/SysCheck but it won't show up for some reason so I used "hacksden" version if it matters:

it means you didn't follow step5 of my other post, or you did something else AFTER following it which I didn't told you to do.

no IOS249 = NO wii games from USBLoaders !

    follow step5 again.
or maybe you didn't do step5 correctly. Maybe my explanation are not easy or wrong ?

    launch d2x installer
use wiimote d-pad to move the cursor and choices to :

    what : d2x v8 final
    where : 249
    base : 57
    version : 21008

Press A, and A and (maybe A again?) until you see that the installer is downloading and patching and installing.
After the installation, it should go back to the "map" with all the slot, if I remember correctly.
press A again to go to next screen
when you are on the main screen (where you choose what to install, where, base, version), press Home to exit the program.

But iv'e been playing wii games just fine? I just played one..so is it even necessary then? I mean the flash drive isn't perfect and doesn't always load but it's actually working unlike the HDD I kept trying to use.

Should I install it anyway? i'm pretty sure I did everything you told me to. I installed something into the 249 slot on the map right?

if you played one, then maybe you have "250" in the USBLoader settings instead of 249.
and your slot 250 contains cIOS rev21 (very old, like 10 version older than the last release)
you'll have a lot of games not working, and a lot of issues.

and, it looks like you don't read or follow what I told you to do, so I'm wondering if I should continue to bother explaining to you or just let you alone.

I specifically told you to follow the syscheck tutorial in my signature, why would you go to wiibrew by yourself instead of doing what I said?
of course it didn't work, and you needed the hacksden version, the one I told you.

I tell you to install d2x, you install 236 and rev21...

You ask for help, but you don't follow the help you get and decide to follow other guides by yourself.
I don't know why you asked for help then.

If you think installing what I said is not important because Wii games are working for you now, then don't change anything. just use your current setup.
I don't know what to tell more if you doubt or don't want or don't follow what I suggest.

    everything works fine now?
then, all is good. don't do anything else.
