So I installed USB loader GX and when I launch it from the wii menu everything is fine until I choose a gamecube game, then im asked if i want to copy the game to my sd card even though I already have it on my external hard drive. I also launched USB loader GX from the homebrew menu but when I do that im told that I need Devolution or Nintendont installed. I already have Nintendont installed and when I launch Nintendont im able to play gamecube games without any issue, as for Devolution I also have that installed but the disk I have is broken which is why im using my External hard drive. Im also not sure if I have Mios Dios or Mios Dios lite installed

having nintendont installed (there's no installation ! it's just a dol to put on your SD card) is not enough.
you have to tell USBLoaderGX that you want to use nintendont's dol, and where it's located.

By default, USBLoaderGX is set to use MIOS (the default gamecube mode of the console) and you probably have DIOS MIOS Lite installed (the one working only on SD card, not USB).
go to settings > loader settings > Gamecube mode : Nintendont

But, it should be set by default to nintendont if you installed the latest release (1268). I changed the default value in 1268.

OR !!!

You use a random version you found.
Update USBLoaderGX !
The OLD version worked only with DIOS MIOS Lite (because nothing else existed!)
update to revision 1268, MANUALLY.
Do not use the update option located inside the program, if you have the old version it will not work.
