On my Wii I changed 120gb Kingston SSD to 232gb Toshiba HDD and USB loader fails to initialise…. When i changes IOS from 249 to 58 it initialised Toshiba HDD just fine, but games failed to load with 58…

any way to fix initialisation issue, but keep the ability to launch games? This looks like an IOS issue with 249 (also tried 248) preventing HDD to initialise?

My problem is same. After years I updated Priiloader, Nintendont and other Apps. I installed via Homebrew browser.

Priiloader still autoboots the USB Loader GX as its installed file but the loader doesn't initialise my USB-Hdd like before. The SD-Card mode is now always on and must be disabled by hand. After that I have to initialise USB by hand and can then return to the list and choose a game.

I reformated my SD-Card, redownloaded USB-Loader GX and put just that on the SD-Card. The problem persists. So I guess that the problem is not caused by the SD-Card or its contents but by something on the Wii or my USB-Hdd. The Hdd is NTFS formated but worked fine until recently.

Some other oddities are occuring like Mario Kart Wii doesn't support my GC Controller in Port 1 anymore.

As a second step I appended SysCheck ME v2.5.0 and it came up with this:

What causes this and how do I continue troubleshooting? Should I already seriously consider to remove the softmod and start over?

PS:
I dropped the SysCheck.csv into ModMii and it returned this:

Here's your unique list of 12 WADs to install:
  1. cIOS248[38]-d2x-v11-beta1
  2. cIOS251[58]-d2x-v11-beta1
  3. IOS11v65535(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP-VP-DIP-RC24])
  4. IOS20v65535(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP-VP-DIP-RC24])

You have some extra IOSs installed on your Wii that are unnecessary. Optionally recover some space by navigating to the WAD/STUBS folder and repeating the steps above to install the 9 stub IOS WADs below.

  1. STUB-IOS3-64-v404
  2. STUB-IOS4-64-v404
  3. STUB-IOS10-64-v404
  4. STUB-IOS16-64-v404
  5. STUB-IOS51-64-v404
  6. STUB-IOS202-64-v404
  7. STUB-IOS222-64-v404
  8. STUB-IOS223-64-v404
  9. STUB-IOS224-64-v404

Would you recommend to install these, too?

PPS:
I just tried to put the /apps folder from SD to my USB drive and start the Wii without SD inserted. Now it starts the Loader GX file installed in Priiloader but the USB cannot be initiaised. Not even by hand by clicking on Game/Install Partition under Hard Drive Settings.
And if I set Priiloader to boot to systerm menu and start homebrew channel from there I press "1" and select USB-Drive, the Wii crashes and I have to hold the power button to shut it down.

It looks like ModMii is telling you to install modern hacks: CIOS 248 and 251, and replace the likely older-CIOS that are in your stock IOS slots. Presumably, this Wii was hacked a long time ago.

It's not clear that this step would fix your issues, but it's a very low effort potential solution thanks to ModMii.

As for the hard drive, it might be starting to fail. If you saw a change in performance (before you changed any configuration).

If you think it's a configuration issue, the prevailing wisdom today is FAT32, 32k cluster size for a Wii's hard drive (WiiBackupManager can do this).

My recollection is that USBLoaderGX has a default IOS that it uses, which bears on its USB functionality. Double check its setting to make sure it is using the correct (c)IOS - which will almost certainly be one of the 24x/25x that ModMii wants to install.

Thank you for the answer.
I will apply the updates and check again. Then try another USB-Hdd. I prefer to keep NTFS so I don't have to split images.

Edit:
I applied the wads and Stubs that Modmii suggested. Further did I connect the Hdd to my pc an ran extensive SMART check under Linux Mint. The result was all fine with the Hdd. After both actions the Hdd was recognised and initialised right from the start.
Hurra.

Sadly some minor inconveniences remain but I will open different threads for it.
